possible SoCal, AZ and NM meet
Wednesday, January 25, 2006 11:30 AM
so a SoCal, AZ and NM J-body meet was brought up in the South Mountain forum. A couple of us AZ people said we'd be cool for a couple hour drive for a big southwest meet somewhere.
I started a thread to see who would be up for it, and possible meeting locations.

Discuss.

try to get the Tucson guys together here too. we just need ideas for a location that's acceptible for everyone. the Texas guys are going to have the longest drive, so I imagine Tucson might be the best idea so far.

That would be so cool to have a regional meet! I'd be down for it. I don't have any ideas as for a meet location...

guess it depends on how far the Texas and SoCal guys want to go. I'm thinking Tucson, or somewhere in west N.M.

need some opinions....

do we want to keep this strictly J-bodies right now?

my personal opinion is that if we do start increasing the numbers, we're going to have to find a venue and pay for it. I'm trying to keep this as free as possible, so people have more money to put in their gas tanks.

a majoriy of the texas j bodies are in central texas. dfw, san ant., houston, & austin areas. so look at distance from there vs the tip or western side of texas. in dfw area we have about 15-20 j's and the san anton/austin/houston area have around that many all together maybe more.

with that being said it looks like the area along I-25 in new mexico is about even between the central tx area and the s cal area(LA,san berno. area)us 2 being the futherest out would have about the same drive

maybe something like the el paso or albuquerque or las cruces area???

maybe if we had it in the albuquerque area some of the utah/colorado j's might come too??

that's what I was looking at today. I was thinking Las Cruces or Gallup I think it is, up around I-40.

gotta figure out a location first. then we'll go from there. someone close will have to go check it out for a place where we can park all these cars, and then call the place of business to see if it's okay to use their parking lot.

The Las Cruces would be a good area. From the S Cal area' it's about an 11.5 hour drive. I know the travel time since I take vacations in the LA area. That time frame should be good for the Texas folks also. I'm thinking that Las Cruces is about the mid way point. I believe that the 11.5 to 12 hours is about right for the CO people also.

Jarett, I don't know , but if you want Bravo Chevrolet is here in Las Cruces. They might be able to do something for the meet. Just a thought.

Re: possible SoCal, AZ and NM meet

looks like the best for most is:

El Paso, TX - about 9 hrs(8.32 hrs on the avg)for most

then

Las Cruz, NM - about 9hrs (8.45 hrs on the avg)for most

then

Albuquerque, NM about 11hrs(9.7hrs on the avg) for TX & Cali people

i guess just depends on which city would be the best to visit. some may want a track nearby.
