parents bought my car... so what?
Wednesday, March 30, 2005 9:10 PM on j-body.org
i dunno it seems like alot of people think my car is less of a car it seems because my parents bought it for me... i dont understand their reasoning
thinking their car is automatically better than my car because they bought it themselves makes their car better how? and btw how is anyones car actually "better" than someones car? i dont go around saying ha ha *#&@ you i didnt buy my car, so i dont consider my self an @!#$ about it (thats the only thing i could see wrong with my parents buying my car)

wut do u think?

because some people think they are cooler or a better person because of the car they drive. i know kids who drive around in mustang gts and make fun of other kids because they drive old beaters. some people arent as lucky as others and have to spend what they have and cant get the best car. its jealously, but ive known kids who have real nice cars and then crash them cuz theyre idiots and then their parents just buy them a new one. granted, not all kids are like that, but people who aren't car enthusiasts probably don't take as good of care of their cars as someone who is paying for it with their own money. its no different in the real world..people respect self-made millionaires more than people who inherited the money. but the bottom line is it's jealously.

There is nothing wrong with parents buying their sons/daughters a car, absolutely nothing wrong! It's the kids who drive around thinking that their shyt don't stink with their car and disrespect others who don't drive a car like theirs are the ones who don't deserve it! Their is one girl who lives in my town, she's about 18 or 19, anyways, her dad bought her a *Roush Mustang, which to me are really nice looking, well, all she does is drive around town, litterally drive around town and acts like shes the shyt! She never ever leaves town, all she does is drive around town. She will stop where theres a bunch of high schoolers hangin out and try to sho-off her ride. It is the funniest thing I've ever seen. I live in a town called Poolesville so when she drives around town we call it the Poolesville 500. It got to the point where people just make fun of her and no one respects her.

my parents bought my first cavalier, and when i sold it 4 years later they bought me an 03 VW Passat. they're not super rich or anything, but they appreciate that im a good student in school, and that im putting so much towards my education. for some people its as simple as that.

I got help on my first, and second car, and then it was basically up to me to pay for...

Mind you, I had an 86 Toyota 4Runner pickup and a 86 sunbird... They paid for half both times... I got to pay for the repairs (which were MANY) and my folks paid the insurance, because it'd be hella cheaper....

But now, I own my Alero, and my last 3 Grand Am's were financed out of my own pocket...

I admit, it was a big help from my folks, but I learned to appreciate it because when I got out of line (which wasn't often) my dad would take the front and rear plates off.. it was in his name...

Anyhow... I think I appreciated it more that I had to pay for it than some friends that had it handed to them.

well my parents bought my car, and granted, I do get a lot of criticism, but there are kids at my school whose parents bought them brand-new cars. There's a girl at my school with an 05 mustang, but it sucks, because it's a V-6, lol. My parents basically said 'you have $this many, go find a car you like.' so that's exactly what i did.

my parents spent a whole $2,000 on my first car. A 1984 BMW 528e it was old, cheaply made and falling apart but we had some good times. I dont think im any less of a person now just because my parents bought me my first car. And as far as someone having a "better car"--someone else will always have a better car than you no matter how awesome your car is. In someone elses eyes their car or some other car will always be better...thats just the way it works.

Before I was alowed to get my temps I had to pay buy a Car in Full and have a year worth of Car insurance. Also my father said that no junky looking car was to be parked in front of his house. Soooooooo

I worked at Wendy's that was within walking distance from home. I bought an blue '89 Ford Escort wagon mint condition for $1,200 and that is about how much I had to save up for Insurance.

My Parents never helped me with my car except my dad helps me tinker with it. When ever it breaks down I had to come up with the money to repair it.

I wouldn't have it any other way. I hope to be able to do the same thing to my son.

My parents bought my car, but its a piece of crap and they only paid $500 for it. I don't have a problem with people's parents buying their cars, what I have a problem with is all these punk ass 16 year olds whos parents bought them 350Zs when they got their license. That's completely uncalled for. Or, my favorite, there's a 17 year old (no job or anything, I've talked to him) driving around in a freakin Porsche! THAT pisses me off.

I think I got pretty lucky when I got my first car. My aunt sold me her Cavalier when I was 16 for super cheap, I have been saving up for a car for some time now and didn't pass up the deal. My parents did help me for a while with paying the car insurance on it but once I started making weekly paychecks, I was to pay for it myself.

After that, I sold the car and used some of that money on a down payment for the Jeep tha I am currently paying off for the next 4 years.

It is cool to me if parents buy their kids a car, I just don't care for the kids that have an attitude or big ego about it.

Have a good one,
Justin

I think to them, who pay for their own, the car means more...

Now, not everyone is like this, but if your parents get you a car, what did you do to earn it? Maybe something, but not a whole lot, really.

Those that earned the money themselves and paid for it themselves have recollections of the times at work they suffered through to get the money for the car.

It's the people that get annoying, not the cars. Yes, it is out of jealousy. A normal person should be happy with what they can afford to keep. I have to sell my 400 HP 1997 GS-T but I need money for college. I'll get over it. Before you guys jump to any conclusions, I DID my car and I pay for everything. Same goes for my cav, it's a great car. I have friends that are good people and their parents buy them all kinds of stuff (Plasma TVs, new PSP, M5 BMW, Z06 Corvette, FD RX-7, etc). Does it make them any different? HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!! It's actually kind of fun to go and hang with them and drive their cars and stuff and none of them are cocky about anything. They would be happy with a civic or a cav and most want their own jobs because they can't stand not buying anything themselves or working for something. However, thier parents like to give them stuff. You can't pick your parents. My family owns a dealership and they still didn't buy me my car (but I got a sweet deal....) It's the people that shove it in your face that you are poor that I can't stand. Just look for the right people and forget the others. Because in the end, they will all have to come back to reality and do things for themsleves.........................

I'll have a sig someday....................

I bought all my cars, besides the first. Hand-me-down lumina apv van.
I am not against people who get cars given to them, hell my girlfriend gets one every time she graduates from anything.

People like my friend moose, are people that kill the idea for me. His mom got him a new car because my brother got one. He DOES NOT TAKE care of it at ALL. Then when it breaks mommy gives him a new car, doesn't fix it, gets him another one. Thats what pisses me off. He has no respect for it at all.

Things that also piss me off is when, people tell me, oh look what mommy bought him. I paid for it, nobody else, it justs pisses me off.

My friend Tim almost got rid of his 2002 bmw 328i, because people tell him all the time, look...your parents buy you that. He works his @!#$ ass of to pay for his car.

Thats my 2 cents..............

I know what you mean, some of my friends say that when a younger kid pulls in with a really nice car. "I guess mommy and daddy bought that".

They don't know that, they just "assume" that is what happened. That irritates me too a lot. My friend that has a new A4 gets the same crap your buddy Tim does about his Bimmer.

Have a good one,
Justin

not the general attitude towards other people that bothers me, if they are a dick they will be a dick no matter what they drive. it is when they do not appreciate what they have, some of you have already hit on it, you know that kid that just wrecks everything but it doesn't matter because mommy and daddy will just buy them another one and they walk away with no sense of personnal liability for their actions.

I'm quite sure when I see a 16 year old with a cell phone that cost more than my car did driving around in a 350Z its safe to assume Mommy and Daddy bought it for him. And rich kids don't count either, what did they do to get rich? They were born into the right family. Your parents buying you your first car is fine, but it shouldn't be a brand new expensive car. Every car after that, and any modding you want to do it, you should have to pay for... Maybe that's just the way I was raised. Hell, I have to pay for all the repairs on my car, that's why there's cardboard in front of the radiator instead of a new one.

But mostly its the attitude that bothers me. I've met ONE single rich kid my whole life who had a good attitude. The rest of them have been dousches. And my favorite comment of all time "Dude, you need to fix that." No sh*t.

I don't think my car is better but I am proud of it. I think thats the case for allot of people that paid for their car themselves especially their first car. I worked a little over 1000 hours in a smokey bingo hall serving people coffee and fries to pay for my car, it's not that I think any less of you or your car I just know I worked real long for mine and I appreciate it. Same thing when I was a kid my parents got me my first few bikes I liked them all but the first one I paid for was different, it's not that I abused the other ones but I did take care of my last one allot more.
As for kids getting powerful i.e fast cars when they are 16 or 17, I don't agree with that unless you are going to spend the money on and advanced driving course and you really know your kid will not be a jackass behind the wheel stick to something a little slower.
