Where to begin?
Internet: Was originally DARPAnet, but it was never a military only project, it was originally implemented in several universities as well as military development agencies. It was used in the 70's and early 80's to originate class cheating, Gopher file exchanges and the like.. when photos became digitisable, you can bet that it wasn't just ICBM schematics that were being transferred.
The Internet as you know it more commonly now developed with the advent of IP version 4 which was released in 1990.. well AFTER Reagan had left office.. as well, the technology was never under US DOD contract, so from the beginning, Texas Instruments, the Digital company, Motorola and intel (as well as Cisco's forerunners) owned the technology, it's just that so few people had the requisite home computer that it never became really profitable to release the technology en masse until very recently. The Net's been around since the late 60's in one iteration or another, and it's never been a secret, nobody bothered to pay attention because that was nerd and geek territory. Regan didn't have squat to do with it becoming public domain, it was always out there.
Trickle down- economics is a great idea, but it doesn't hold water (pardon the pun). Companies aren't giving up their watershed, and just deepen their pools, and what little does actually run out of the coffers is only what they must pay, and even then it's a monumental hassle. Trickle down economics sucks in the face of a Keynesian ideal, or even a real solution... but then again, Alan Greenspan had nothing to do with the trickle down idea, what does he know?
Inas far as taxes are concerned, you have to understand that there is 2 ideals out there, and they're held by both parties: Give a lot of taxbreaks and hope that the economy is stimulated enough to recover the shortfall, let alone new spending commitments, or, Spend what you have, pay back your indebentures, their accrued interest, and get your head above water possibly.
The first one is a great idea when you're close to zero debts, and you're covering your entire interest payments and paying off the principle of loans. It monumentally blows goats when you're in a defecit position, and have been for 5 years previous. Putting it simply, the economic ideas of the first are fine, but your country is not in the position to be carrying out that kind of tax break... as it stands, you may get a break now, but when the US becomes a poor lending risk (Yes, countries are rated), you'll lose way more than you could possibly gain through a tax break. As it stands now, there is a little over 3 trillion dollars of accrued debt, and there will be a defecit of something in the neighbourhood of 80-85 billion dollars. You're not even fully covering the interest payments! If that were you or me on a mortgage, we'd have our houses reposessed, you can reposess a country, but the US will not be in good standing financially... once the baby boomers hit retirement in large quantities, then, you're screwed chewed and barbequed... Social Security will collapse (seems that there was a lot of talk about that a while ago, nothing concrete yet), and you'll either have to withdraw it completely, and force the next 2 generations to pay for it, or you'll need to withdraw spending from other places to cover it.
Thin wire you're walking on, are you sure you don't want the net of sound financial planning?
Really, I think holding the line on taxes, and making businesses pay their fair share is a good idea, because, you'll eliminate the deficit, and maybe start chipping away at the debt... Debt doesn't HAVE to be mandatory...
