"Miss S" a 14 year old girl here in BC's Childrens Hospital. She's got cancer, and is undergoing treatment for it. She had a tumor removed from her leg, and faces amputation. Thing is.. she's a Jehovah's Witness... so she's in court trying to fight having a blood transfusion. Apparently it's against her faith to have a blood transfusion.

So let's see... her religion could very well kill her... sounds like a good enough reason to me to say "@!#$ religion"

Update on this one... went to court, and the girl lost her case... the judge ruled that her religion would end up causing her death, and ruled that she could not refuse blood transfusions.

Apparently the Bible says it's wrong to accept another's blood? What a load. Hello, science? Thank you for saving another stupid one.

i use to work in a hospital and i can tell you first hand that most Jehovah witness do take the transfusion but they just dont let there family and friends know about it i have had several patients come up and and say something like (when my family shows up let the nurse know so he/she can hide my blood sack.) they want to live but are afraid of what people would say....i can honesly say i have never had one Jehovah witness refuse the transfusion (i use to work in the SICU)

So I guess that good and bad doesnt truly exist, cause that is basically what all of you non-believers are saying. Without a God there would be no moral standpoint and there would be no such concepts as good and evil.

Also, a lot of non believers are asking where is God now. He isnt going to be our bitch and do everything we want for him. This life on earth we all have is nothing, nothing but a test. It isnt even 0.0000000000000001% of our life. That is why there is pain and death. This life is just a test to see where the rest of your life will take place. Unfortunatley, its looking glim for most of you.

Well.. ethics are defined as knowing the difference between good and bad, and right and wrong (basically)...

I have ethics... but I don't believe in God.

I have morals... I also think that MOST of the stories told in the Bible are in fact quite good moral lessons. However, I still don't believe in God.

I also don't believe in this afterlife of which you speak... and since neither of us have any proof to authenticate or disprove its existance... then it's a waste of time to try and throw out idle threats of "looking glim for most of you" It's statements like that trying to convert me and the rest to "your side" that make the Bible Thumpers a pain in the arse to people like me.

Removing God from the equation:

Good will benefit you and/or others for the long or short term, without harming others.
Evil may or may not benefit anyone, and will harm others.

Actually, good and bad are all relative to the perspective that holds it...

For starters, assuming there is a God, can we, as humans, be sure of what God's persepctive is? The bible in it's current form(s) is not the original, so that's a bust--and even if it was, it would be nigh-impossible for every little piece of the puzzle to be put into the bible--or any holy book for that matter because were humans trying to read every circumstance off of a divine mind...

Plus, future condidions weren't taken into account.

Either way, Morality doesn't mean much to me, because based off my definition, morality has to do with the codes of behaviour handed down by some omnipoten being in the cases of what determines if you receive damnation or paradise...ethics, OTOH are codes of behaviour governed by the societry-at-large that you live in. I'm more bound to those than morality.

But that doesn't make me inherently evil. I just am I and I do what I need to do.
