i dont really give a damn about he price of oil.

we should be looking for other, cleaner sources of energy and not fighting about 17th century technology. it is old and like most old things it is @!#$ done.

and to the guy that said it IS a renewable source of energy, tell that to the middle east.

again, end of discussion.

Anyone else find a little irony in this quote from 3 years ago, now that we're on the other side of it, watching the prices fall back towards $80/barrell?

I hadn't seen this thread before yesterday, and when I saw the above quote on page 4, not knowing the original statement was made 3 years ago, I first thought we had a clairvoyant among us, until I read it again and realized it had to be significantly older than July when T2 quoted it.

Just saw $2.13 in the next town over from me yesterday. I'm sure we'll see it drop below $2 in a week or so.

Philly D wrote:I personally think the prices should just stay up.

.........why? do you have stock in the oil companies?

and doesnt 90% of your population live within 100 miles of the us border? and you have less people which gives you less buying power. so you buy less gas and use less gas daily. thats why you pay more for it.

In theory, if this trend continues the the prices of all goods and services should drop - since fuel is a major factor in all areas of our economy. I haven't seen this happen yet and I would understand if it doesn't until this becomes a long term trend, but eventually it should happen. If prices stay like this for a long time it will provide a bigger boost to the economy than Washington DC could ever hope to provide in 100 years.

Considering the drive I have between work and home, this is already like getting a decent pay raise. I actually have something to spend!!

Funny though that I read somewhere that SUV sales have had a sudden spike in response to the drop in prices. Americans really do have the memory span of a gnat...

Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in
America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the
country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along,
whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist
dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the
leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and
denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the
same in any country. - Hermann Goring
