Are you down with O.P.P.?
Monday, August 22, 2005 2:12 AM on j-body.org
Are you down with O.P.P.? That's the question...do you respect other peoples property? The reason and inspiration of this post came about while I'm at work.

I work nights at an alarm company and we have 2 cameras that show what's going outside of the building, 1 shows the majority of the parking lot and 1 showing the entrance door... I park close to the entrance door. Almost everyone smokes at my job and on my shift I'm the only one that doesn't. When they go outside they usually stand by the door and smoke. Well a couple times and also tonight, I caught 2 people leaning on my car. Now...it might not seem like much but hey...it's not your property! I think that is one of the rudest things to do. Unless your REALLY good friends with me or I give you permission, there is no reason for you to lean on my car.

It's not necessarily the fact that I've invested alot of money into my car but for the fact that it's my property and not theirs and they have no right to lean or sit on my property without my permission. This especially pisses me off when I have gone outside on different occasions and have seen ashes on my front bumper... ! I come inside and say something and someone would say "oh, the ashes must have flew from a ciggerate onto my bumper". They better hope that if any ash gets on my car again that I don't see them flick it....last thing I need is another problem with my body kit.

The fact is, it's plane rude. I think people who aren't brought up right and/or don't have a vehicle wouldn't understand what it's like. Let me go and sit on your porch and I don't know you...lets see how you act, it's the same concept.

Well when they came inside tonight after I saw them leaning and sitting on my car I told them politely not to do it again and I hope it's the end of that but it still aggravates me how people don't respect other peoples property or DON'T even realize that they did wrong...it's more like I'm "sensitive" about my car and that's why I said something.
I know that's why...even if it was stock I would say something. Even my other co-workers who are more respectful and older say they have no right or reason to lean or sit on my car. Oh well I guess...

By the way, the 2 people are under the age of 23...I know that shouldn't matter but it probably does. I'm 21 and I have more respect but that's how I was brought up I guess...

I would approach them and let them know not to lean against your ride. Be cool about it and I am sure that they will agree with you and apologize. Tell them with some humor in your tone so they know it really isn't a big deal but at the same time they will not do it again.

It's all good!

Honsetly, if it is that big of a problem for, and they don't stop, just park a couple spots down and walk the extra 20 feet.

Like the others said, just talk to them first, and if it still a problem, just move it. Something like that is not worth getting mad about

I already have and they said ok they would stop...I was just venting a bit of anger and seeing if anyone has been in my situation before.

They said they would stop but I don't want to park far back because the closer to the building I am, the better view I have of my car in the camera...don't want it broken into or vandalized. Also, the light is brighter the closer I am to the building so I can see it better.

i know exactly what you're talking about.

there's a member on the org who will remain nameless...the DAY i brought my car out to a meet, he felt the need to pop my hood and finger the car's intake.

not to mention he humps it regularly - and he's been told to stop. if you do it once, that's fine, it's funny...but don't do it every time i see you. don't do it more than the first time. it gets old, and i'm sick of having scratches from pant zippers on my fenders.

Fenix, Who would do such a thing? Thats ok at this weekends meet a guy shows up with his little boy of like 5 years old at 10:00 ! Anyway the kid is running around with this little spiderman action figure and jumping him from hood to hood of everyones car. I asked him to stop cause I'm sure dad doesn't want to pay for a re-paint and the little brat yells for me to leave him alone. Dad intervened and the brat was gone, but some
people just don't have any respect at all. I'm sure his dad does't care hes probly the same way.

if the father stopped the kid, he at least halfway respected the other vehicles.

he SHOULD have stopped him as soon as he got on the hood of just one car...but i digress. people have little respect for property that isn't theirs.

I caught some kid sitting on my hood once... left an ass dent and nice paint gouges from his jeans.

After he freaked and realised I outweighed him by about 100 pounds, he apologised profusely... I told him don't worry, but, I need his license. He asked why, I told him so I know where to go to collect the damages. I told him not to freak out, it's just paint and the hood, but he was with friends and I had all their license plate #'s from the gate camera, and if they booked, I'd get the numbers and involve the cops.

He calmed own a bit, I also told him to call his parents (he was about 16 or so), and let them know what happened. I spoke to the father, told him what happened, told him where I was going to get the car repaired (my dealership... it's expensive as hell, but then again, it's not my money), and that he could meet me there, or I'll pay a visit with the county sherriff and drop off legal notices in case they decide to fight it, I basically told him everything...

The father was understandibly pissed, and he was about to start in on me.. I told him to chill, I'm not threatening your son, he scratched the hood of my car because he was sitting on it with jeans with riveted pockets and that it was on tape... He was still pissed, but I got him in a corner, and offered a way out.

I told the kid to not worry again, and then told him that if you don't know who's car it is, you really shouldn't be pressing your ass against it. They might take serious offense.

Hopefully he got the intent. I got everything cleaned up... all was fine.. namaste.

Then I find some durnk asswipe friend of one of my neigbours leaning on my car... the good thing: she wasn't wearing jeans with rivets, the better thing: I don't care about the finish, the best thing: she slipped and raked her back on the rusty spot at the front edge of the hood and drew a little blood. If she can't deal with tetanus, she probably shouldn't have been near my car.

That's exactly what I don't want to happen to my car...that's why it pisses me off but it all comes down to respect like said before.

Good thing you got it settled and good thing you look like David Wells LOL

I had that same thing happen tonight at band... these guys were all touching my car, etc. so I told them to stop (they're sorta my friends, so I don't ask) and they think I'm joking...so I tell them to get their hands of my damn car. They still don't get the picture. So I'm like 'Get your DAMN hands off my @!#$ car NOW!' They got the picture. Another time, I was hanging out at a friends appartment, and my car was parked along the side of the road. Well a UPS truck pulls up and gets WAY too close to my car for comfort. So the guy hops out and runs across the stree to deliver the package. Well the lady with him (trainee or something) gets out to watch, and just props herself against my car. So I yell out 'Get off my CAR', and she just stays there. God people are retarded. I liken it to being your significant other. You wouldn't want some random guy slapping your girl (or guys) ass, would you? learn some respect.

I understand exactly where you're coming from. For some reason your friends think that because they are you're friend they can lean, sit and do anything to your car like you won't care and when you say something to them it's like "what's his problem?".

It really just comes down to respect for other peoples properly. I've seen something as disrespectful as watching outside my window and a guy let his rotweiler (sp?) take a crap right in front of our driveway and just walked away and left it there! It's stuff like that...takes me back a little.

Aneighbour of mine did that... has a german Shep... would always take a dump in front of my place... I saw him once just let the dog do it... popped the window open and told him that happened again, I'd dump cat's litter on his front doorstep.

I also wrote him a stoop and scoop fine. (I was bylaw enforcement officer for my condo corp at the time).

Yeah we used to have a person who lived in our apartment building who would not watch their kids or be outside with them while they were riding their bikes.

I go outside to my car one day to see what at first looked like a scratch at the bottom of my door. Upon closer inspection, I realized this was not a scratch... but a GOUGE in my door from some kid's bike. After I had no luck with finding out who it was... and fixed it on my own... 8 months later I got confirmation of who did it... this kid Tyler... whom I thought it was to begin with. His mom said 8 months after the incident when this kid hit my mom's car that he had hit mine too and apologized to her about it... but not me.

Kids should NOT be riding their bikes near cars... period. Parents need to teach their kids responsibility too.

Later on... we had some people who could not speak english move in (this is in the country, I don't live in a city or anything... not that that has anything to do with it). ANyways.. these kids were riding their battery powered "4 wheeler" (kids thing) RIGHT TOWARDS THE BACK END OF MY CAR!!! AND STOPPED ONLY ABOUT A FOOT NEAR THE BACK OF IT, RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!!!

Well the guy that was there... (who was just visiting the people who lived there and couldn't speak English)I asked him "Habla Ingles?" he said "Yes I speak English"... and I told him what the kids did... and how they're always riding their bikes and other stuff and playing right near my car... and he said "oh really?" They (the people that live in that apartment) are relatives of his and watch his kids while he's working... and told me not to worry about it, he'd take care of it. So he yelled at the kids for riding their bikes near cars, and told the people that lived there to make sure they don't do that, that it's disrespectful and they should watch them while they're outside.

I felt bad cause he yelled at the kids... like screamed at them ALMOST... but he was really nice and apologized and it never happened again.

Shortly after... they moved out. Now we have this guy living there who listens to his music and TV so loud that we can hear EVERYTHING in our apartment at all hours of the night... but if we crank up our music DURING THE DAY (this only happens like once or twice a month) he bangs on our wall so hard that pictures almost fall off.

Argh... I can't wait to move into a HOUSE. lol

Irresponsible parents should have their craniums beaten in with their kid's craniums.

Problem solved.
