I think a welfare system isn't a bad thing, but the question was abiguous. BTW, "private charity" was in place last century... during the 20's and 30's... and that worked out OH SO well.

politics are funny at times, but in the long run is like a battered red headed orphan....f=ed up.
we supposedly live in a DEMOCRACY, where REPUBLICANS are against DEMOCRATs and vice versa....and one of our main goals of the country to to spread the notion of every country WORLDWIDE should be DEMOCRATic and be able to choose, however some DEMOCRATs take it too far as well as the REPUBLICans. DEMOCRATs in a allegedly DEMOCRATic society advocate change which is the definition of being LIBERAL, where as on the whole REPUBLICANS are more CONSERVATIVE and want to retain morals and ways of the past. BOTH are good ideas BUT every country has to move forwards to keep up with the times so the REPUBLICANS who long for the far past should suck it up and evolve...the DEMOCRATS that want too much change at once should suck it up and compromise as well and not get too far ahead bringing both sides to a happy medium of moving forwards and not moving too far ahead. America was basically founded as a REPUBLIC, its in our pledge of allegiance to boot, but we try to be DEMOCRATIC in action. half the country is for one, the rest for the other.
the funny part is that for most every person who claims to be CONSERVATIVE in this day and age where there are little morals, respect for others, etc, to revert and change to the way it used to be would be a LIBERAL action. For most any person saying they are LIBERAL in a society of chaos and unpredictability, mainly its keeping it like it is, just making it LEGAL, which the action would be CONSERVATIVE.
in a nutshell, its virtually impossible to spread morals to a country where the majority dont even follow along the lines of the definitions of the groups they join actually mean. watch mtv come election year, and see how many people vote republican because "they wanna keep as much money as they can earn" and those who vote democrat because " the republicans determine how much money everyone gets"...those are two quotes that still erk me from 2004.
