"Common Sense" is not so common for one thing. Then there's the fact that common emotions and thoughts that seem to come from "nowhere" are used as proof of God's existance. Common morality, the recognition of beauty, and striving for an unknown perfection are all proof. We have never seen perfection and yet we attempt to achieve it. Everyone seems to have similar concepts of perfection and beauty to go along with our common morality whether they have been exposed to it or not, without coaching or teaching, we are prewired for these concepts that are not really needed for survival as a species but are needed to be able to recognize God.

i agree that it is a very fullfilling way to live. putting yourself second and someone else first is an awesome feeling!! but i would say that is NOT how the majority of society is thinking... we are being told by society/media to worry about yourself, do what you want, focus on yourself... common sense?? perhaps most view it as nonsense!

it's not a hard thing to do to focus on yourself and leave everyone else the hell alone.

I think the whole "God" debate in this topic is that people take religion in the without (as opposed to the within) a bit *too* seriously.

Whether you see it as "many fingers/same hand" or "infinite points of view" or "infinite universes", the fact remains that you cannot see things ike everyone else can. What works for you WON'T work for everyone else. When you realize this, moist likely it will make things a lot easier to sort out.

Which is why i say the religious fundamentalists--the ones who need to get a life before telling everyone else what to go and do with their's, need to have a roto-rooter enema. As Godspeed said--GET OVER YOURSELF. Your way is not the only way.

I must agree with Hahahaha's assesment. Just because I don't go shouting every five minutes how I'm a Christian, doesn't mean I'm not. In fact is doesn't make me a "bad" Christian either. Not all Christians need to wear it on their sleeves. Do you know the story behind the fish symbol that many people like to put on their cars?

Back when being Christian was quite illegal, one man/woman would use their foot to make about a half a oval in the sand(which to insiders aka only other christians - meant "I am a Christian"), and if the other person did the same to complete the symbol, then they knew they where free to open their mouth(in private of course). They gave the gospel to people who wanted to hear it. These early Christians where not exactly "telling it on the mountain," so does that make them "bad" Christians?

Or consider this - suppose a Muslim took it upon (him/her)self to "save" you aka convert you to Islam? I mean that is fine if you where interested anyways but somehow I doubt you are. Now since you would reject what they believe to be God's true word(them feeling the same about Christianity as you feel about Islam), they might tell you how you are God-less, maybe even evil, and certainly will be condemned after you die. How would you feel about that? See, that is my point.

While I think people here do flame you(JB4C) too much, you do need to open your perspective to see why they do it at all. And NO!!!!!! - it is NOT because everyone hates Christians or God's word etc etc!!

puttign others first actually IS part of survival since the furtherment of a species through evolution has to happen within a LARGE group. it couldnt be just 1 ape who only cared about himself evolving. that ape needs to have sense enough to protect the family/family unit/ group etc if in danger.

so the feeling of putting others first making u feel like it is the right thing to do really has nothign to do with A God or ANY God. its the natural way a normal balanced mind works. however, there are many factors that make people not respond to that feeling or the fact that their brain may not be exactly normal.

u can live a GREAT life with a christian god, islam god, jewish god or no god. living good is not relevant to what religion you study.

all i am saying is i do not appreciate anyone saying that X religion is where living a good life as a concept comes from. because that concept can and is realized by all no matter the religion or even in absence of religion.

the concept is a innate feeling in most all animals humans included and are not FROM any book or religion.
