Israel began operation rescue kidnapped soldier

Israel has begun an operation to rescue a kidnapped soldier who is being held in the Gaza Strip. Supposedly Israel has massed 3000 soldiers for the operation, Merkava tanks are rolling in and Israeli planes have already attacked a bridge

Pallestine is wore down and out of money. sure they have been fighting for thousands of years, but things are looking a little different this time, I would say its to the point where palestine HAS to recignise Isrial as an independant state. - they are hit.

Funny, What I heard on the news was that they have been flying supersonic at low alt. smashing windows and using general intimidation tactics. They blew up 3 bridges overnight. They are scaring the crap out of the civilian population.

That's heavy handed negotiating, not a rescue mission.

They also blew up the power stations so the Gaza Strip is no without power. They also arested Hamas leaders according to what I read this morning. Basicly if they hurt that kid they're gonna be wiped out by the Isrealy Army.

Maybe next time the terrorists will stop and think before they kidnap another soldier again.

Whether Palestine recognizes Israel as a country, state, whatever, there will always be war. The neighboring muslim countries should be helping Palestine financially. But they do not want to, because Palestine was created as a pawn by Jordan to keep the homeland and worldwide idea on destruction of Israel alive. The truth is, the neigboring muslims countries hate Palestine, but they hate Israel even more. So Palestine gets used, like one big human barrier, to make Israel look like a bully. The middle east wants to push Israel into the sea. Palestine has been offered land for peace, much to the loss of how small Israel is already numerous of times. Palestine has rejected any notion of the existance of Israel.
I agree with Cable, "they have been hit". Somethings got give. War or peace. THe brothers of Ishmael will always fight with the brothers of Isaac. But we all know who wins at the end..... Yeshua Malachai, shalom Etz-Israel.

^^^ Where can I get what you're smoking?

"Palestine" was part of Egypt before Israel launched the 6 day war, and started running Muslim Palestinian Egyptians into refugee (Concentration) camps.

I also want to know how the hell Jordan created Palestine when it hasn't existed as much of anything approaching statehood in 3000 years? If Israel hadn't started pushing Palestinians into camps, they'd never have been able to get organised or have a real population as they were mostly desert dwellers and subsistance farmers before anything happened.

They got their ordinance from Syria, Iran and Russia because at the time (in the early 60's) Israel was basically an American protectorate. Muslim nations might not like Israel or Palestine, but, they're starting to understand that they're not doing themselves any favors by fomenting trouble with a nuclear equipped nation.

Ishmael and Isaac aside, the reality is that neither can politically or financially afford to not have the other.

Yup ! Isreal was formed by Jews taken out of Germany and Europe after WW II and allowed to live in Palistine where they decided to take over and force the Palistineins out of their land and into camps. Gaza Strip, The West Bank all these places you hear so much trouble from are because Isreal started it. The trouble they get is the trouble they asked for. The U.S. really despritly needs to but the hell out of what happens to Isreal and maybe things would cool down for us with these terrorists.

Why hasn't anything been done about the USS Liberty?

Just answer that one little question and you'll begin to understand the trouble in the mid-east.

When a site starts off like:
Quote:

"Palestine" is a fantasy-land. That is why we head this category "Palestine"? "Palestinians" are simply Arabs like Jordanians, Syrians, etc. But Yaser Arafat claims that much of Israel’s covenant land belongs to these mythical "Palestinians." Some among them make up the most diabolical terror groups in the world, including Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hizbollah, the Al Aksa Martyrs Brigade, etc., though some have strong backing from other Arab nations and leaders beyond Yaser Arafat. Their goal is not a shared state with Israel, but the elimination of Israel so that the entire state is Palestine. For Arabs living in Israel in 1948 and 1967 who felt they were "dispossessed" of their land, the U.N. and England encouraged Jordan to be their homeland. Sadly, no nation wants them as they are so riddled with terrorists. But Israel is expected to share their God-given land with them.

I'm already getting a sense that it's a bit skewed. Palestinians are Similar to the Bedhouin traders (sp?) of the Arabian Peninsula, they're nomads and lay broad claim to the area, the only problem is that they never had a concentration of population to make a nation state. I read the article you linked to, and it's very b

Don't forget, Israel didn't exist as a concrete state for about 500 years (if memory serves). Israel would have been Tel Aviv and Jerusalem without the 6 day war, which captured the easily over taken area to the east and south, and, again, if left to their own devices, Palestinians would have basically been nomads forever. Arrogance always reaps tears. The Israelis wouldn't have any of the current Palestine related terrorist problems if they'd left them alone. You (and this website) may believe one thing, but the simple and undeniable truth of the matter is that as long as a group of people are confined, kept ignorant, poor, sickly and hungry, they're not going to make big distinctions about origins between themselves: It becomes an US and THEM situation. It's one of the reasons Catholic priests, Jewish Rabbais and gypsies banded against the Nazis in Concentration and work camps. It's one of the reasons the POW Code was established in WWII, Korea and Vietnam.. black, white, red, yellow... Jew, gentile, rich, poor.. doesn't matter. A common enemy is a common goal, Egyptians, Bedhouin, Jordanians, Syrians, Persians all inhabiting the same area... lock them all up and you make yourself their enemy... Doesn't matter what banner they unite under. The question that not a lot of people are trying to answer is: What is it that the Israeli's have done for the Palestinians lately? Jenin is still under Israeli control, Gaza and Ramallah experience incursions nearly daily, much of the Palestinian territory is patrolled by the Israelis, and getting in and out of Israel requires a search procedure. I find it also very strange that the author purports "arabs" are the ones oppressing Palestinians, when it's pretty plainly obvious that average "arabs" aren't in any position to give much help. Instead of "Arabs" and "Jews," why not cut out the semantics and call it what it is: making the poor the pawns of the rich and self-interested.

Israeli warplanes attack Beirut airport

By SAM F. GHATTAS, Associated Press Writer
51 minutes ago
BEIRUT, Lebanon - Israel intensified its attacks against Lebanon on Thursday, blasting Beirut's international airport and the southern part of the country in its heaviest air campaign against its neighbor in 24 years. Nearly three dozen civilians were killed, officials said.

The strikes on the airport, which damaged three runways, came hours before Israel imposed an air and naval blockade on Lebanon to cut off supply routes to militants.

The shockwaves from the fighting began to be felt a day after Hezbollah captured two Israeli soldiers in a cross-border raid. The escalation of violence in the Middle East pushed crude oil prices to a new intraday record of $75.88 a barrel. Western countries, Russia and the United Nations called for restraint and demanded the soldiers be released.

Israel said it was seeking to end once and for all Hezbollah's presence on Lebanon's southern border, while the guerrillas insisted they would only release the soldiers in exchange for Israel freeing Arab prisoners.

In a stark warning, the Israeli army chief said Thursday that Israel's air force is prepared to strike anywhere in Lebanon, including the capital of Beirut, if the Lebanese government fails to rein in Hezbollah guerrillas.

"We are not at war, but we are in a very high volume crisis, and we have an intention to put an end to the situation here along the northern border," Brig. Gen. Dan Halutz said in Jerusalem.

The airport, located in the Hezbollah-controlled southern suburbs of Beirut, was closed after the attacks and flights were diverted to nearby Cyprus. It was the first time since Israel's 1982 invasion of Lebanon and occupation of Beirut that the airport was hit by Israel.

Israel also fired a missile at the building housing the studios of Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV in the southern suburbs of Beirut on Thursday morning, the channel's press officer Ibrahim Farhat told The Associated Press. One person was hurt, but the station continued to broadcast.

Overnight Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon killed 35 civilians and wounded dozens more, Lebanese security officials said. A family of 10 and another family of seven were killed in their homes in the village of Dweir near Nabatiyeh, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to speak to the press.

Later Thursday, Lebanese guerrillas fired volleys of rockets at northern Israel, killing an Israeli woman in her home in the border town of Nahariya, officials said.

About a dozen people were wounded in the attacks, which also targeted the northern Israeli town of Safed, which hasn't been hit since the 1990s. The town of 20,000 is about 10 miles south of the Lebanese border.

Eight Israeli soldiers and three Lebanese were killed in fighting Wednesday.

Air force Maj. Gen. Amir Eshel said the campaign was likely Israel's largest ever in Lebanon, measured in number of targets hit in one night and the complexity of the strikes. The last major military offensive against Lebanon was in 1996 when about 150 Lebanese civilians were killed.

On Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert called the Hezbollah raid an "act of war" by Lebanon and threatened "very, very, very painful" retaliation. The Cabinet, meeting in the wake of the military's highest daily death toll in four years, decided to continue the army operation and call on the international community to disarm Hezbollah, according to participants.

On Thursday, Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev said the offensive in Lebanon has far-reaching objectives, including pushing Hezbollah militants away from the Israeli border and eventually sidelining the group altogether.

"We must neutralize the hostile terrorist infrastructure that exists in Lebanon," he said.

Senior Israeli military officials said Israel warned the Lebanese government that it plans to strike offices and homes of Hezbollah leaders in the southern suburbs of Beirut.

Israeli Defense Minister Amir Peretz also demanded that Lebanese army forces be deployed along the border, saying Israel would not allow Hezbollah guerrillas to reoccupy its positions there. Lebanon has long refused to do this, saying that it is not in business of protecting Israel's northern border.

The Lebanese government said Wednesday that it had not known of the Hezbollah operation, did not condone it and bore no responsibility for it. The Lebanese Cabinet, which includes two Hezbollah ministers, urged the U.N. Security Council to intervene.

Hezbollah's brazen cross-border raid Wednesday opened a second front for the Israeli army. The army launched an incursion into the Gaza Strip more than two weeks ago to search for another Israeli soldier who was captured by Hamas-linked militants.

At least 23 Palestinians were killed in Gaza on Wednesday. And an Israeli airstrike early Thursday destroyed the building housing the Hamas-controlled Palestinian Foreign Ministry.

Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah on Wednesday offered to trade the two captured Israeli soldiers for Arab prisoners, and warned Israel that his guerrillas would fight if attacked. The group says it has over 10,000 rockets and has in the past struck northern Israeli communities in retaliation for attacks against Lebanese civilians.

The attack on the airport occurred shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday. Warplanes struck three runways, leaving a large crater and seven smaller holes, airport officials said. Two flights approaching the airport were diverted to Larnaca airport on Cyprus.

The main terminal building of the $500-million airport, which was built in the late 1990s, remained intact.

The Israeli military confirmed it had struck the airport, saying the facility is "a central hub for the transfer of weapons and supplies to the Hezbollah terrorist organization."

In its overnight attacks, Israeli aircraft and artillery targeted roads and bridges, as well as Hezbollah positions and houses of guerrilla members and leaders. A bridge on the main highway between Beirut and southern Lebanon was hit by big bombs that left huge craters, blocking traffic.

Airstrikes also hit deep inside eastern Lebanon, striking a civic center attached to a Shiite Muslim mosque near the town of Baalbek, as well as a transmission antenna for Al-Manar, witnesses reported. The group's broadcasts stopped in the area.

Israeli jets also blasted the Khardali Bridge on the Litani River, 10 miles north of the Lebanese-Israeli border, witnesses said.

Hezbollah TV reported that guerrillas has fired Katyusha rockets at the Israeli border town of Kiryat Shmona and targeted an airstrip in the upper Galilee panhandle. Another barrage of rockets targeted Nahariya near the coast.

Nahariya Mayor Jackie Sabag said the whole town had been shut down and residents were urged to stay in underground shelters. Patients at the town's hospital were moved to rooms on lower floors.

The Israeli army said several rockets had landed more than 12 miles south of the border, showing that Hezbollah has managed to extend its missiles' range.

Israel and Lebanon have a history of conflict, punctuated by a full-scale Israeli invasion in 1982, and its 18-year occupation of a buffer zone in southern Lebanon that was intended to prevent attacks on Israel.

What the @!#$ instead of going after the Hezbollah go after the country they live in. What idiot thought that war plan up? Thats just going to piss off more people and create more hatred.
