Ha ha ... "the reason I gave him my knife is so that after I shoot him I can tell the cops that he atacked me with the knife" LOL

And ya.... you don't need anything bigger than a 9mm.... it's a low enough caliber to control, and it's a center fire round so it's reliable..... plus if you dont think that a 124 grain shanked 9mm hollow point isn't going to make one hell of a whole.... your a moron.

I understand what your saying about the long range thing with guns.... thats why I always carry a knife..... and I always have a bat in my car...

Although.... a gun can be a pretty close range weapon if you can draw it fast enough..... but a gun is a last resort weapon..... it should only be used when a life is in emediate danger.

I only drew my gun once in an act of self defense... but never fired it. We had bullets start flying by us in a parking lot one night, and we dropped down, took cover, and drew our sidearms..... before we could get a baring on where the shots where coming from... they stopped.... we're lucky we whernt hit.... and the people shooting are lucky that they wheren't where we could see them... because our shots would have found there target. We still don't know WTF was going on that nigh till this day.

[quote=Keeper Of The Light™ (Strazca)]^^^Except if the idiot tries to shoot you within arm's reach. A gun is not the end-all-beat-all of weapons. it is a ranged weapon with a very concentrated "killing edge". it's useless as a weapon if you can't bring it's killing edge to bear. From a distance, that's mighty easy. Within arm's reach, it's a lot harder to do.

Guess its a good thing that its out when you enter a house........

eaven if he is in arms reach, you grab him, he grabs you, you play around, he points the gun AT you when you have YOUR hand on it, the .45 slug enters your body,.......

Then what?

he wins.

There were not called " The Great Equalizer" for nothing.

9MM IS to small. There are study's on this. DOD wide is switching over because of it...

I mean Come on...

Below is a sampling of some popular rounds taken from factory handgun ballistics tables ranked in ascending order of kinetic energy. These are representative numbers and actual stats for each caliber can vary depending on bullet weight and powder charge, so view them as directional.

and a 230 GR .45 is the standard load for that round, 110 GR is the standard for a 9MM.... so use a 245-260 GR federal hydroshock........

I always carry a knife on me - ALWAYS. I know how to fight and haven't come across a female yet I didn't floor in a fist fight, but males are another thing entirely... it's not (always) a fair fight. I've beat a guys ass a few times (1 with a golf club so it was kinda unfair) but I'm not silly I know there are big strong dudes out there that could really mess me up so I'm always prepared to stab someone in the gut if need be, but thats a last resort as I'm not a violent person by nature.

For home protection I have a 9mm hand gun.

It's a crazy and at times scary day in age, esp for those of us living in big cities, you can't get caught @!#$ around in the wrong "hood" with the wrong skin color.

1911's are made by Colt..... unless we are thinking about a completely different gun.

Obviousley... a .45 is gunna do more damage than a 9mm..... but come on..... a 9mm HP in the chest is still going to kill you.... or at least stop you in your tracks....

A whole the size of you pinky is enough.... a thumb sized whole might be better.... but it doesn't mean the former wont do the job..... after a certain point..... bigger doesn't really matter..... where talking civilian use here.... not armed forces.

1911 is a model, like the term 110W is to light bulb

LOL ONE of my 1911's is a Rock island arsenal 1911 Officers, its a carry gun, but still has 7 rounds in the mag, and one in the barrel, its carried Condition 1, Magazine inserted, round in chamber, weapon on safe.

at 25 Yards it groups 5" in 1/4 Sec React drill's.

NYPD stopped using 9mil because of its lack of stopping power, if an asalent has winter cloths on, AND your using a, say 147 federal Hydrochock +P+, you still have less then a 25% chance of stopping him.

At a store I worked at, we had a few scumbags come in and try to rob us once or twice. They were robbing a SUBWAY with a KNIFE. This, my friends, is possibly the stupidest move you can make. Rob a place with a pocket knife, while they have 9" F*CKING KITCHEN KNIVES within an arm's reach. Yeah, I'll just grab the money from the change safe for you...

The same store we also had a security wrench. It was an old, adjustable rusty wrench with a head the size of my palm. We bought it for $1 at the pawn shop across the alley. Makes a handy warning when you have to kick someone out of the bathroom and they're high on crack.

Ever see a bum escorted out of a Subway with his pants around his ankles?

since i'm in Canada without a restricted licence i'm going for the long arms.

minor threat = .22 cal rifle
close range = 12 gauge pump action
long range = 30-06 win. with scope

if i'm not at home I'll use whatever i can get my hands on at the moment.

I use my wits first and my firearms second. What firearm that is varies. I prefer the 12 guage in the house and the 9mm on the street. I am a personal believer of shot placement over the size of the bullet. Couple that with the fact that I like subcompacts and we have a match made in heaven.

Ummm... I had a guy try to car jack me at gunpoint in the parking lot of my apartment building once.... he just robbed the subway down the street....... you don't have to live in a crappy corner of the world to be in danger... (luckily my car was running and in gear.... I just peeled off)

And I happen to know for a fact that my gun will send a 9mm FMJ into one door and right out the other of a mid 90's Jeep Cherokee without even phasing it.... (we where bored)...... I sure as hell wouldn't want to be shot with one..... I really dont understand why people put them down.... I KNOW... if I put a round or 3 into somebody with it.... they are going down and not getting back up.... If 2 steel SUV doors dont stop it.... a winter coat sure as hell isnt..... IDK where your getting this info man.... less then 25% chance my ass.... maybee he wont die if you don't hit any organs and is rushed to the hospital.... but there's pretty much a 100% chance your gunna stop him..... and if the first one doesnt create the desired effect.... that why I have 7 more..... the people doing these studies must be retards or something..... also... a 9MM has more penetrating power than a 45ACP... a 45 round moves slower and is bigger so it knocks you on your ass worse... but a 9 mil round will go through more.

Not that I'm just trying to argue or anything.... but I've owned several handguns (.45 acp included) and I know the difference....

Re: Self-defense: What do you use?

FMJ VS FMJ with the rounds, penetrating is the same, as the 9mm goes faster, the .45 makes up for in mass and momentum. it is dubble the mass, 115 Vs 230. but doesn't go 1700 FPS to make up for it.

it comes down to blunt trauma inflicted to the body.....

and any way, with the more rounds thing. we were taught, with the .45 one shot per person, then move on to the next target, with the M9, 3 shots per.

7 "kills" VS 5.... easy math.

I have plenty of 9mm's too, im just saying, i would not grab my 92FS, or CZ85 for a CCW pistol.

No it comes down to hitting vital organs. A .45 is not a magical. It along with almost every bullet made demands that you hit your target in the desired area. Shot placement is far more important than size of the bullet. The rest is just pissing contest.

so why did the US Navy go to a 16" guns when they had 14" guns already?

Personally.... I love 45's.... but I'm just a better shot with a 9mm .... and I know it's enough to suit my needs...

To each their own.... its more of a personal preference than anything.... both do fine at getting the job done as far as personal protection in the civilian sector goes.

i posted in here a few monthes ago, but i have added a Springfield Armory XD-9 to the list, and i will be carrying in 8 more days.

16+1=my 9mm > 10+1 = 45
i wanted a .40 at first but went with the 9mm. I personally dont see the need for a .45 or 357 when carrying.
hell my Bro carry's a 380 and i know couple others as well

* Also i would consider a .22 UNDERPOWERED, not a 9mm
