And the problem with Capitalism is this:
Riches earned through hard work are passed on to people who haven't earned them, and those that got them but haven't earned them usually want to keep their stake even in the face of those that are working hard to earn riches. Capitalism would work a lot better if, in our society, the estate went to bury the person and then was divvied up as taxes and dispesed to the rest of the country as opposed to going to an heir. That way, capitalism doesnt become modern feudaism where the rich are rich by inheritance and birthright.
just a thought...

so what you're saying is instead of passing the riches down to a family member(s) who "didn't work for it", we should pass it down to a population that didn't work for it?
Isn't the sole purpose of trying to make your own fortune to be able to supply your family with that wealth? Otherwise, wtf is the purpose of even trying to gain wealth? At that point, why even bother working? Why not just take welfare and wait for the next billionaire to die so he can pay everyones taxes?
Seriously, put your thesaurus away and go back to your preferred communist country.

Do you even think about the @!#$ you post before you post it? If you actually implemented the fix to your so called "problem with capitalism" then it would no longer be capitalism it would be socialism. The capitalist system is not perfect but it is the best system around IMHO.
So your saying in essence if you make $10 million in your life time, you don't think your children or surviving spouse should get one dime? You would rather have it taken by the government and given to people you don't even know? Because they deserve it more than your relatives right?
Sounds to me you are butt hurt about not being born rich, granted I wish I would have been born rich but I am not going to go through life holding a grudge about it.

P.S. what the @!#$ does this have to do with what George H.W. Bush's presidential legacy will be.

Spouse, maybe. Kids, nope. Let them earn their own keep. The sole purpose of me working hard in life is to get cool stuff for me. My point was that those born into money without having to earn it have a propensity to want to keep it out of the hands of those that might earn it from them. From there, you end up getting an old money "old boys club", which basically means it turns to feudalism, but the aristocrats are not defined by bloodlines, but rather, moneylines.
The folly of capitalism: Making so much money that you undermine the system which brought you power to keep others from taking it away from you in the same way you got it. Basically, this has to do with how greed is in the equation.

Wealth is not finite, wealth can be created. It is not like there is exactly $12 trillion in the world and someone has to let some money go before someone else can make money.

Yet again....so you're ok with making your kids work for it, but not the population? So you enjoy handouts from your government?
Did your parents make you do tricks to get a cookie as a child?
If we further use your example of taking the inheritance away I can think of quite a few business ,that I have worked at or purchased things from, that were handed down from father to son that would have otherwise not existed. Also on a side note, if they were to take the money would they also take debt if that was all that is left? One guy leaves $10M of wealth and another guy leaves $1M debt, after assuming both they still end up with $9M. However due to teh greed of our government (look at how many "forget" to pay tax money) they would just tell the family left with debt to go @!#$ off and pay it themselves.
Back on topic. I think Bush's legacy will be include his stmulous and that he did do a much better job of getting money to the people than Obama did. Just for fun here is a link to how I think many will remember Bush.

that will pale in comparison to the up-coming "stimulus".
Especially when the upcoming stimulus actually does nothing for the economy.

While i could go on a long diatribe about how i didn't mean "giving it away" in the sense of charity or earning, I won't.
I will say this, though. Wealth is finine since every resourse we directly depend on (food, fresh water, useable land, etc.) is finite and it is proportionate to whatever we consider valuable. Anything representing wealth--be it precious metals, jewels, and even the metal for coins, paper for bills, plasitc for cards, and even the materials used to create and distribute e-cash is finite. Therefore, wealth cannot be created.
That being said, if wealth is then considered a birthright, then we are no better than feudalism, despite whatever monicker makes you sleep at night: Democracy, Republicanism, Socialism, Communism, et. al. As a finite concept, some people will earn said wealth all above the board, then pass it on to their progeny who did not earn it, and so on, and so on. Be it 1 generation away from the person that did all the earning, or 50, somwehere down the line, you'll have a less-ambitious person that fears losing their wealth, and thus uses said weath to manipulate the system so neither they not their progeny stand to lose it--at the detriment of those that by ambition would become wealthy.
Dont' think it's happening already? Golden Parachutes? Companies going backrupt but those that ran them into the ground still gainfully employed and taking multimillion dollar vacations? What your dealing with here are those that are wealthy literally by birthright (and in many cases by accident--those that made the wealth are long gone) that manipulated the system so that it's litterally impossible for them to get poor as long as the system stands.
While this may not mean precluding someone from passing his gold watch to his grandkids (which in retrospect, was a bit extreme), there has to be some way to ensure that everyone starts at ground zero and goes up there based on personal merit. I doubt it's possible now, though. It would take a massive revolution or a major awakening within human nature itself.

Take an economics class and pay attention, you just might learn something.
