| About Me: |
My passion for J-Bodies began in 1989 when my mom and dad brought home a brand new Sunbird LE Sedan. I was only five years old, but I will never forget that first J. As I got older I began to imagine myself driving around in it all alone... listening to the stereo... just cruising.
In 1994 my parents brought home yet another brand new Sunbird LE Sedan. This was my mom's and my dad was now driving the '89 Sunbird.
In mid 1997 my dad was in an unfortunate accident in the '89 Sunbird. My dad was okay, but the car was totaled. My parents got about $1200 for it from the insurance company. According to my dad, when the car was totaled it had somewhere around 315,000 miles on it. That was a sad day. Now my dream of cruising in that J would never come true.
In the summer of 1998 my mom got a brand new Sunfire SE Sedan. My dad was now driving the only remaining Sunbird.
I had only had my license for a few months when my dad announced that the remaining Sunbird was to be passed down to me. And so began my heavy passion for Pontiac J-Bodies. I took such good care of that car. I loved it more than anything. Than in late 2002, the transmission began to fail on my beloved Sunbird. On November 9th of 2002 I purchased a brand new Sunfire GT Coupe due to the ailing Sunbird transmission.
In late December of 2003, the transmission on the Sunbird was rebuilt with 217,200 miles on the odometer. The Sunbird is still alive and kicking to this day. Despite the presence of seemingly ever increasing rust, the car still runs great with 247,000+ miles on it. I still consider it a very trustworthy, great running little car and very much enjoy driving it.
My mom’s Sunfire is still alive and kicking as well. Unfortunately, rust is starting to appear on the bottoms of all four doors, but on a more positive note it is quickly approaching 200,000 miles and it still hauls ass.
For the past five years I have enjoyed my Sunfire GT Coupe greatly. It won me a third place trophy at the 2005 GM Small Car Bash which was totally unexpected and such an awesome surprise. Through the GT I have gained many lasting friendships and even more wonderful acquaintances. If it weren’t for the GT I would know nothing about the J-Body platform. As much as I've enjoyed the GT over these past 5 1/2 years, it is time for me to move on to something more "grown up." The GT was sold on Saturday June 7, 2008 :-(.
On July 7, 2007 I purchased a 2002 Sunfire SE Sedan. I have always liked the looks of the 2000 - 2002 Sunfire SE Sedans, so I finally decided to just go ahead and get one. After almost a year of searching around online, I stumbled upon this one. It had 48,xxx miles and every option that was available. I did a Car Fax report which checked out fine, then I drove 5 hours one way to check it out in person. It was absolutely immaculate. It still had that new car smell. I signed all the paperwork and it was mine. Unfortunately, I had to wait until the following weekend to take it home because the dealer had some maintenance stuff to take care of for me. I drove the 5 hours one way once again the following weekend to pick it up. The ride home was fun. I was planning in my head everything I was going to do to it. The modifications began the minute I pulled in my driveway. I have loved this car since the minute I first saw it in person and with every modification I complete on it I love it more and more! There is no doubt in my mind this car will be with me for a very long time to come. 2200 FTW! |
