My username has been with me for 11 years now and it's what I use all over the world on the internet.
I would hate to have to use my actual name on the forums although people know me enough to start to know your name over the years.
It would also take out the uniqueness that is a username etc.
Just sayin....

While I agree with James, I got rid of my username a while ago.
I figured since 96RedCav has no meaning to me and I just made it up on the fly when I joined J-BOM and here, I would just go to my real name.
I dont want to be known by my name. My real name is for people who know me not for strangers on an automotive forum.
Plus like misnblu I go by my SN just about everywhere.
When I thought up my username, it had meaning behind it, and a story too.
I guess most don't but when I first starting doing forums here, probably being the first forum, I was hell bent on having a username that meant something that struck dear to the heart.
This is something that can't be done with just a normal name and I guess most don't have that kind of attachment to something that meant the world to them and put that into a username.
Call it sentimental but I'm sure most everybody here has some aspect of knowing what I'm talking about and why they chose their usernames.
Either way, thanks Dave for all you do for having this forums.

I have had different screen names everywhere. None of them with any real meaning.
My main one was that some people may have seen around the web is Quick86 (My old, Mild 350 swapped flat black '86 Regal
). But ALOT of other people use that one.

i think dave was referring to usernames and not author names... if he changed the login to your email addy, and then you just set your author name to whatever you want, it would still be the same on the front end... just a different thing to type on the login screen...
however i'd rather keep the user name system, because this way, if a user wants to hide their email addy they can, and they can still be identified by user name despite whatever author name they pick (prevents appearing to post as someone else)

Yeah, I think everyone misunderstood. I was talking about getting rid of usernames, not author names. But then the usernames would need to return in a way, similar to how you can set a username on facebook, as a way to access your profile. I guess its pointless anyway, so I won't be doing it. At least not anytime in the foreseeable future.

It was a typical hot summer day here in the Tampa bay area.. I was stuck inside the office wasting away in the AC desperately searching out ways to make my cavalier faster then my friends Honda's & Acura's at the time.
My "screen name" (Turbocavalier98) is my AIM name and came from my desire to turn my 1998 cavalier into a turbocharged beast.... 8 years, and several threads bashing my idea's of building a 2200 turbo motor and I am STILL here with my 1998 turbocharged cavalier with a built motor and tranny....
