2001 cav transmission issue

My kid has a 01 cav she left for work and pulled up to a stop sign to leave the neighborhood.

When she went to put it in gear the shifter was very loose. I assumed this was due to one of the cables coming off the shifter or trans. I disassembled the console and found both ends of the cables are securely attached and moving.

You can move the shifter to the 1st gear position but it does not actually go into first. Furthermore you can slide the shifter from the 1st gear position straight across to 3rd and 5th without going back to the neutral position.

The clutch pedal has also been acting up according to her. You can press it in and it does have normal resistance but the pedal does not fully return to the up position. You can pick it up the rest of the way with your toe and it moves the remaining inch or so of the travel range. (Reminds me of a failing / bad slave cylinder)

I do have a video of both issues if that will help, otherwise I’m open to suggestions, if anyone has seen a similar issue.
