Ecotec Plug-n-Play EV6 (USCar) Fuel Injector Harness....Look Inside!

Hey guys,

Stumbled apon this last night and figured I'd share as it make make a few peoples lives a bit easier.

In my quest for new injectors I realized there isn't a whole lot of options for the Delphi/Multec injector connector style of injectors that come stock in our cars.

I then found out the 2.4 LE5 came with EV6 USCar style injector connectors....so my plan was to cut the injector clips off my 2.4 harness and solder them to my j-body harness.

Which lead me to discover this:

The harnesses are identical.....aside from the 2.4LE5 harness having USCar injector clips and our stock harness having Delphi/Multec injector clips. Here is a picture I took of the two harnesses side by side:

Left Harness is the 2.4LE5......Right is the stock Ecotec J-Body Harness

Here is a bit more info about Injector types:

EV1 = Is the "Fat Body" style injectors, these came in the 02' 2.2 Ecotec cavs and as well as stock LSJs. These can feature two connector types, Delphi/Multec (like in our cars stock) or Minitimer/Jetronix (commonly mistaken for EV1 injector connector type).

EV6 = Is the "Pencil Body" style injectors, these came stock in the 03-05' 2.2 Ecotec cavs. These can have 3 different connector types, Delphi/Multec (like in our cars stock), Minitimer/Jetronix (commonly mistaken for EV1 injector connector type) or USCar (commonly mistaken for EV6 injector connector type).

It should be noted that EV1 and EV6 are not the injector connector types, but rather the body types of the injectors, EV6 is an inprovement over the older EV1 body style externally(smaller body) and internally(better design).

Here is a picture showing the 3 injector connector types referred to:
Note: EV1 is actually Minitimer/Jetronix and EV6 is actually USCar in this photo

The aftermarket support for EV6 USCar injectors is massive, so this allows you to run and of these style injectors (as long as they are the correct length) without having to cut and solder new pigtails onto your injector harness.....it is truely plug and play.

Not a huge discoverery since it only saves maybe a few hours of time, but for those intimidated by wiring and soldering it is a nice and easy solution. Also, the guys running 2.4 LE5 bottom ends, if your motor comes with the wiring harness (like mine did) you already have this harness kicking around somewhere.

Additional notes: Any 2.4 LE5 injector harness should work, mine came out of a 2006 G6 so I could only assume the 2.4 LE5 Cobalts would use the same harness.

Hope this helps someone out.

Cheers!

Another idea is to buy the adapter clips that go from our style to EV1. They literally cost 1 dollar more per piece than the ones I cut out of a ford escort and soldered in cost.

I know there are other ways of going about this but this is a nice and simple way of running EV6 USCar injectors.

Plus the harness could probably be had at your local scrap yard for a few bucks, or free if you just stuff it in your pocket...lol

I prefer keeping things as simple as possible...there is less chance of anything going wrong that way...haha

Sweet - i'm currently using ford racing 47lb/hr injectors w/ the USCAR connectors. Lol wish i had known this before.

I was looking to run ford racing 42lb injectors, what's your max duty cycle on your 47's?

i have 42.5#ers and max duty cycle of 80% was good for 325hp.

You have a AFPR at all?

I used one of those injector calculators and it said for 270bhp I needed 42lb/hr.

Good info tho, I want to make sure I don't have to buy injectors again, so I want some room to play.

Newt what fuel pump are you using? iirc Vince is on a Racetronix with a 14v harness. I'm on the same pump / harness with mid-high 30% for duty cycle with my 42.5#'s on my m62 @ 249whp.

^^ Wow only mid-high 30% IDC? That implies you would be below 80% on stock injectors.

Newt, stock pulley M62 (with water/meth) I'm in the mid 50% on the 47 lb/hr. Lots of head room.

Old skool- thats what I remember from when Ryan tuned my car. I'm pulling the blower and going port fueler for turbo so when I get the stock injectors back in my car I'll see if my buddy with hpt can log my duty cycle with my as I'm curious what the Racetronix pump does for duty cycle on stock injectors.

sorry to get off topic.....

Correct me if i'm wrong, but the pump does not increase fuel pressure right? So it shouldn't have an affect on IDC?

Unless it's out flowing the stock fpr's ability regulate which is totally possible.

Since we are on the topic, I know 80% is the upper limit for IDC to keep things safe, is there a lower limit?

As in it is a bad idea to run your injectors under a certian IDC?

I already ordered the Ford Racing 42lb/hr injectors, so hopefully they will do the job.

As long As the car can idle you're fine. Though at a certain point your injectors wilk become too large and and wont be able to open a short enough time to idle. Then its time for staged injection.

The M62 setup I just tuned with 60lbs injectors is at I believe 60-65% IDC. This is also on a stock pump.

Mine was like that. Now i needed to fix my tune, I dropped 2afr points sprucing from stock 02 regulator to the aem set at 45psi base pressure (which kept idle fuel trims the same).

The stock harness uses delphi style connectors tho, so those would only work if your going to solder the EV1 (minitimer) pigtails to your stock harness.

At which point you might as well just run EV1 (minitimer) injectors, or just but EV6 (USCar) injectors and solder those pigtails onto your factor harness.

Some place does sell the delphi to ev1 or ev6 adapter. I forget where, I think its some rx7 website.
