Let me say a problemwe ran into when taking a 2001 2200 5 speed cavy and putting a 05 Ecotec set-up in it. We could not get the car to start (did not matter what BCM was in the car). Would turn over all day, no fire. Well just for the heck of it I swaped the ignition switch from the donor car, and bam it fires and then goes into theft learn. After doing theft learn we were good. I know you should not have to swap the ignition switch on a 00+ car, but I have seen this now on 2 cars. I would bet money this is the issue. You might not want to take my word because I have not done to many of these (only 3)

yep, the fuel is working fine. its spraying into where it should. i looked up BCM on google. thanks for letting me know what it means tho.

im sorta thinking it is the ignition switch... which sucks, cause the donor car has been crushed.

thank for all the quick replies guys. i hate sounding like a newb, but im a computer hardware specialist not a mechanic.

thank you

i swapped out my cluster from my 02 that had no tach, to one out of a junked 00-02 same configuration, 2dr/5spd etc.. same engine and everything just the cluster had a tach.. anyways, when i did it i didnt have to do the re-learn.. so would this be an issue with doing the re learn after the eco swap?

^^ it should not be a issue the relearn is between the BCM, ECM, and ingition module.........the Guage cluster is just ran by the BCM

When doing the Ecotec swap if you swap everything over (ign switch, BCM, ECU) then you should not have to do a re-learn, bit if you do not swap all these thngs (from the same car) you will have to do a re-learn.

ok, so i guess my car being built in the 1st half of 02 means the computer doesnt have the provisions for the eco?

i'm not sure if that is true since unless your doing the steering column to. since that is where the keyed theft lock thing is.

Thanks for the write up! I didn't know if anyone had cleared up the issue of going auto to manual while doing this swap. Currently, I am swapping a 5 spd ecotec from an 04, into an automatic 02. Just got the motor out of both and checked the mounts. Welding WILL be required to convert from auto to manual.

thanks so much for the write up, i decided to do this swap after i blew up my 6th 2.4 (all but the last replaced on warranty everything went smoothly and i did do an auto to manual swap. All the mounts on the right side are the same the trans mounts on the left need to be cut and new ones made, as well you will need to cut 3 holes in the fire wall for the clutch and master cylinder assembly hope this helps

still shouldn't matter thats all the same the only change made there was the column itself but that was done in 03+ pretty sure the keys aren't special to it it doesn't have the chip like the 98 regals do and i'm pretty sure the cavaliers don't use the PK3. i think the BCM is just looking to see the lock cylinder rotate correct me if i'm wrong. haven't looked to much into a 2000+

my 99 after swaping the 3800 in doin all the wiring and putting the 3800 BCM in ran first try with a GP program regal program was looking for the chip but i never had to do a relearn

Wrong post to ask about swapping the 2.2 OHV in a 2.4 car.

the big connector (C100) is the interface between the dash/body harnesses and the engine harness.

If you have 2000+ Jbody, a 2000+ engine, and you use the engine wiring harness for a 2000+, you will have no issues wiring wise.

I'm looking to do this swap soon. I have a 99 and I already knew about the interior wiring harness, bcm, dash, center counsel, ... I've had a lot of questions answered on this how-to but I've heard of other rumors about swapping the airbag module and airbags. I want as much info as I can get before I start my project.

what needs to be done for the poser steering hoses? i really dont want to have to buy eco ones if the 2200 hoses can be made to work.

Wondering on the whole auto to manual swap. Has anyone tried to swap the subframe from and manual and bolt it up to the unibody? This would eliminate any weak spots that would be done by inexperienced welders like myself. Plus if you already have the donor car it would be a simple swap and save some hassles. Open to other ideas and ANY comments.
