What king of speakers you're having??
What king oh head unit??
Start with basic troubleshooting,
1. Connection check.
2. Polarity check (can find harness wires/colors beginning of this thread)
3. Speaker mount (make sure moving cone does not touch anything).
If these look ok then have to take a look at head unit. Keep us informed.

I have a 2004 Cavalier and I just bought a sony cd player. I took out the stock deck and put in my new cd player with the right harness.

Now my damn car will not start. I put in the old cd player and it still wont start. I did not cut a single wire or touch anything. I used the fuse for cruise for my 12v source and thats it. No other fuses are blowen or anything. Tried jumping the car thinking battery died, no go.

Only thing I can think of is the theft system is causing the car not to start. WHAT THE HELL????? I need help bad.
When you try to start the car, what happens? Does it crank but not catch? Is the security light flashing after you try and start it? If so... the Passlock may have to be re-programmed (nothing to do with the stereo installation).

ok this will be my first time with a 2000+ radio install... if I get one of the T harnesses, then that is where I get the 12v ignition from correct? And I wouldn't have to tap into a fuse? Just making sure before I go out and buy all this stuff to get my system transferred to the new ride.
let me see if i got this correct.

the acc wire from the new deck needs to be tapped (with a 5amp) into the wiper (brown wire) or one of the thick orange wires from below the panel.

other than that, everything else is straight forward? does the battery wire from the new deck need to be tapped into a different location rather than the harness?

i'm going to put a deck in my wife's cav and need to see if that's all i need to do. thanks, all this info is great.
Ok.. now I've read it ALL baby!

Quote:

before i found your web page i found this other web page (dont remember were) but anyways it said to put an after market radio in there was a plug in the trunk on the driver side that you could plug ur radio into. well i tryed this to c if the the connecter was the same. when i took my radio out of my car i had to unplug the thing in the trunk from what is labled an amp. well when i realize it was the same plug i put everything back in and when i went to play the radio i got this loud vibrating noise that comes out of the rear speakers i tryed everything i could think of to get it to stop. the radio works but i dont get any sound exept for the loud noise. the only way to stop it was to unplug the plug in the trunk from the amp thing. hopefully you know what this is caused from couse its driving me crazy. i purchased an aftermarket radio to put in but dont want to untill i know whats going on. PLEASE HELP..... ill be waiting for your email back... thanks

Please note to all users.... DO NOT do ^ that. Plugging the factory deck into the amplifer plug is what makes things go wrong. It is bad. Stop. Now. Bad. Bad bad. Bad bad bad.

If this thread is still active, ( I dont feel like reading 7 pages, so call me a lazy newb if you must.) I have a question.

I installed a non factory stereo. The 90 dollar wiring harness, linked a speaker which would seperate my door chimes from the stock speakers. It also re-routed my stock unit to the trunk. My in dash replacement WILL NOT WORK when the stock unit is unplugged from the trunk. Is there any way to get around this. I spent a good ammount of time (an entire weekend) setting it up as is.

Only thing I can think of, is that you have the factory amplifier.. and it's still using the factory deck to turn it on and off...

Pull back the trunk carpet, on the driver's side of the trunk... see if there's a box there with a crapload of wires going into it... if so, you do indeed have the factory amplifier... if not... then I have no idea.

If you do have the amp... there's a pink wire in the relocation harness that needs to get +12V to turn the amp on... you can connect it to the remote turn on lead on the new aftermarket deck, and it should work mint.

no..i had used the t-harness also, and even if you turned the power off on the stock unit in the trunk, the aftermarket would not turn on. i had some stuff rolling around back there one day and it turned it off..i was like WTF!!
