He bought my PPI's. I already let him know about needing baffles to mount them solid and space them out a bit. I wont disagree with those RSD's being good on a budget, but he also just bought my PPI's lol.
i see what your doing answering questions and steering people to buy your old gear, your a sneaky one lol.

hahaha hey they are nice components, I have no use for them, and I never got to install them. So he gets a good deal, and I get my @!#$ sold lol.
He PMed me again with some issues fitting them in the doors though... says the spokes of the baskets hit the door, spacers would cure that but he thinks the bottom of the speaker is going to hit the door panel. Now I have installed some beefy 5.25s and 6.5s in J body doors without issues. So I just don't see how these would be any different(although beefy for a 5.25, I just don't see them being harder to fit than Type R6.5's or Kicker SSMB6's). So Jason or anyone else, some input for the guy? I hate to have sold them to him and him give up on installing them because he is having trouble fitting them.

Trim the door. The sheet metal isnt that thick. Thats all I have.
that sucks, but my mb quart 6.5s were that way. they were so deep i couldnt mount them without completly doing custom door panels. its hard to say without seeing them though. you'd think even deep 5.25s you could modify something. if the spacer will cure it, how deep is the spacer that he needs and as sundown said, maybe he can trim the metal to raise the speaker up a little higher in the door to get it away from the edge of the door panel itself.

PPI specs say top mount depth is 2.5". That should work with a simple 3/4" spacer without any issues.

Well, I'm going to take a closer look at it this weekend when I go home. I've got some 3/4" MDF lying around, so hopefully I should be able to fabricate something to work. I may have to trim the sheet metal so I can mount the speakers up a bit higher to clear the door panel. I'll let you guys know what I come up with.

Yeah keep us posted. I want to see them installed nd hear how you like them.

with a 3/4 inch spacer, you'll probably have the issue of the speaker hitting the door panel. I had to cut my hole bigger for my speakers in my door so the basket would fit, and use a 3/4 inch mdf spacer.
Your car may do 13 sec @ 103 mph, but my car does 146db @ 35 hz.
Well, I ended up ridiculously sick this weekend and couldn't go back to look at the car. I'll be heading back in the next few days, so I will be able to mess with it then. I guess I'll be prepared to do some cutting of sheet metal.

When I mounted my audiobahn 6.5 components in the doors it was a complete custom job to include cutting, drilling, and custom made wooden mounting baskets... But for the price, the are a nice set of components. (pn: ABC600V)

Just finished up getting them installed in the doors. I can't imagine having to fit 6.5" speakers in there. The 5 1/4" was tight as is. I made a 3/4" thick ring from MDF. It spaced them out perfectly. Just clears the window, and just enough room for the the door panel to go back on. It did involve grinding the speaker hole bigger in the door though.
JL, I gotta say they sound amazing! I temporarily have them hooked up to an Eclipse 4 channel amp. (The 2 channel I ordered is back ordered for now) It's crazy the things you hear in songs that you've never heard before. Not to mention the @!#$ty quality of some of the songs that I've downloaded. Never noticed it before on the other speakers I had. The highs are crystal clear, and I'm amazed by the amount of bass those little woofers put out. Thanks again for hooking me up!

No problem. That is the kind of review I wanted to hear.... The kind that makes me wish I found a way to fit them in my car lol. But trying to keep the 83 completely original, so no speakers that require modding
Once you get some better power and tuning time, you will be even more amazed, I'm sure! As for what you said about how much better the music is and how much you missed with the old speakers, I hope some of these noob asses saying "just drop in some cheap replacements that are better than stock" read that and fully understand what a GOOD set of component speakers is going to do for them.

That's the only downside to having a good system. I had the same revelations when I stepped up

Pink Floyd has way more depth now. I got my system tuned in a bit last night and listened to Welcome to the Machine and it was pretty intense.
