Well said Andy...

quick question, just for knowledge sake.
you said you heat treated a bunch of parts. I've seen some talk around the .org discussing cryo treating. which ones better? or are they the same?
can't wait to see this J up and running.

You guys seriously think that if it is such a well built and high priced engine that it should have absolutely no hickups? You are truly idiots then. You ever see that special on Speed Channel titled "The making of a sportscar"? It was about the new 6 series BMW, they spent about 4-5 years making this thing, they finally get it driving, take it for a test drive and there was a list of about 15 things that needed to be addressed-immediately."
that is an entire CAR, not a motor......................................
as was said before on snap! lol

Thank you, atleast somebody gets the point of that video. I guess the "Expert engine builder" was too stupid to see the point of that.
horsepower should over power the best of balancing jobs, You see the 800 horsepower v8 cars at the street, and the engine has been fully blueprinted and balanced, I dont think you can balance anything on that engine!

I love you! Best quote EVER!

i think that is the stupidest test ever. i beer bottle full or empty will not vibrate off a battery. i never heard of that test after you balance a motor!.... for the bottle to vibrate and fall off the battery you'd have to have a snapped rod or something seriously wrong with a motor. For the most part that bottle will stay put. So the bottle test proves nothing in your engine build-up. How do you properly test a balanced motor? hmm
every heard of "don't count your chickens before they hatch"? same goes with saying don't say you'll make 500Hp by the end of summer of 2007 until you take it to the dyno......
Do you have any more pictures of the engine build up, because based on the pictures posted it looks like just any other 2.4 that was built
This thread should read
Sweetness: And so it Begins... and suddenly ends.......but will come back in the spring or summer of 2008 with maybe 500HP

A turbo 4 cylinder has nothing to do with a N/A V8. The V8 is so lumpy because has such a long duration cam, for the high rpm power, that it ends up 8 stroking at idle.
Everybody who builds a motor with high numbers ALWAYS have problems come up. Its a fact, so all you morons stop bitching because hes having problems. Of course it will have problems. Every car has problems no matter how simple it may be or how difficult.

I dont want to get involved in this fight, cuz it is pointless. But Proto, can you honestly say the motors you build are absolutly PERFECT? My dad is very good friends with a VERY good engine builder, he is VERY busy, has a prestine shop, and for a local truck puller that had ordered 8, 1000 horsepower GM big blocks, all were dynoed..guess what, 3 out of the 8 BLEW up on the dyno, ha, I would say hickups can happen. Parts were sourced to him that had deffects, in this case the rod cap bolts...and I am sure you will come say that the engine builder is terrible and didnt blueprint everything, I promise you, it was all blueprinted. There are just some things that are out of the engine builders power. Dont come here and asking me specifics about what rod bolts he was using or any of that, I have no clue, I just asked my dad what happened to Steves motors and he said that the rod bolts snapped, and that they were junk. SO that is all I know about it, but it indeed did happen. No engine builder out there can say that every motor he builds is problem free, unless he is doing basic builds, nothing with this much R&D out there. Chris has told me most of what is inside the motor, and I promise you, it isnt the average forged rod/piston build. I am not saying I agree with everything taht is inside of it, but it is a tittyass build.
ok...I'm gonna kind of sit in the middle here. as far as Todd's builds go...he may not have reworked the oiling system as much as you did....but his motor went together, put down well over 200hp NA...and went on its merry way. he didn't hit 500 hp simply because he wasn't told to make 500hp. I have full faith in todd's ability to make hp...I know of 2 of his builds that are very strong, and also very reliable.
Now on Mev....I dunno the guy, from what I understand his rep ain't the best but I try to be open minded about things. From the impression I get from chris...it was something overlooked, that shouldn't have been...hence he isn't coming out about it. From what I know of chris, he's a nice guy and we all know his car is gorgeous. How he remains this passionate about this car after all the setbacks he's had is beyond me...I woulda said screw it years ago.
now...granted, there was a problem with the motor...but...he's gonna get it fixed...one can only hope thats the end of it.
Todd's point of view on people accomplishing things and then mentioning them is a tough one though to argue...

i couldnt agree more, people on this site love to hate on each other. No one appreciates anyone else's work. I joined 2 bmw sites, nothing but helpfulness from everwhere. Everyone praises everyone's good efforts, etc... Sure they hate on ricers, but even that is more pronounced here than on most BMW boards.
Very disapointing to see people on the same team constantly crying like babies instead of smiling like champs.

Holy effin @!#$...this post unofficially brings the jbody.org to a new low. If it stings your nuts so much that Sweetness makes claims...why not sit back and let him prove your wrong...or right. Personally I hope he finishes this beast and makes 600whp. This was the first car enthuiast forum that I ever became a member of. I learned they are not all like this. Some car enthuiasts actually share knowledge toward a common goal. Now we have douchbags here just brining each other down, as well as brining down the quality of this site. This forum is a great resource; it has been for me anyway. But
NEWSFLASH for you whining crybaby toughguy internet hater mofo's...JBODY's are no longer produced. We need strong presence to keep this platform alive...and all we are presenting is a bitchfest. Not to mention bringing down the aftermarket every chance we get.

funny you should mention that........... since this happens to be the #1 argument in this post....... I love how you just fought for both sides all in one post......
