Did you test fit that in the car? It looks like you are going to have to push your firewall back a fair bit to clear this.

LOVE it man. Cant wait to see it on the car. Like said, looks like you are going to have to do firewall mod to make it fit

I am guessing the BFH was a 16lb sledge?

I have that same sawzall at home, and in the pic where it's laying beside the turbo/manifold, it looks to be close to the same measurement. Looks like you need 18"-22" of clearance between the head and firewall?

lol yes it is a tight fit but it clears i have to drop the engine down a few inches in order for me to bolt it up then jack the engine back into place. this is the first mani i have ever made and after some thinking im pretty sure im going to build a sidewinder when i return from my deployment (i'm supposed to be learning how to tig weld while i'm gone) and gonna pick up a tig so i can have a better looking mani. and asa i feel up to moving around and working on the car or atleast supervising the wife while she finishes installing everything itll be going straight to the dyno.

Looks amazing.

Fit up is everything with welding. The better the fit the better the weld with TIG. Just an FYI

Yep, fit up and making sure the part is clean is key. There are a ton of little things that come into play with Tig welding. I am no expert but I have been gaining my experience from a welder that has been welding for 45 years and is rated number 5 in Florida.

Easiest way to learn welding is seat time. More and more practice. For steel its pretty easy cause there is no high freq so its a much smoother soud. For a strong weld always bevel the joint. For aluminum same thing but its not as forgiving as steel. holding the torch at the right angle and using the right rod comes into play.

There is so much to welding its truly an art. But you would be amazed at how many people will ask you to start welding @!#$ lol. Especially TIG work.

Hope I didnt jack your thread, if you want to talk about it in a PM or text ill shoot you my number.

Was just wondering of the modification you had to do to get it to fit, might be nice not having a gas tank buried under there thought huh?

well got the new pump on earlier and when i started the car up it was knocking REAL bad and i have a ton of blowby. so i pulled the plugs they all look okay (slight foul) did a compression test and got 1=150, 2=180, 3=180, 4=180 so im thinking something mechanical ( ringland, ring, piston, rod bearing) took a hard hit when the stupid fuelab pump went out and me being dumb and trying to make it to work on time instead of leaving the car on the side of the road . so monday i'll be towing it off of base and it will sit in my garage until fall when i get back. I'll pull the engine apart then and diagnoe the problem from there.

knocking to me would mean more like rod bearing.

I have seen Eco's run with busted ringlands and not make a sound and even run good, until boost comes on.

Were you beating on the car when the fuel pump died?
If you were driving it normal, and the pump started to fail and you was still able to drive to to work, then I see no reason the piston's got hurt (unless you were beating on it).
