What we need to do is make a list of people who actually drive these cars EVERY SINGLE day at the power they have listed. Not Dyno/Trailer Queen numbers......... By no means am I bashing these types of cars but I have always been more impressed with daily drivers than full blown race cars. One of these days when I decide to stop being so broke I'll throw some real octane in mine crank the boost and throw a new tune in her. I honestly dont know how you guys pushing over 400 can even take advantage of these cars on the street. I mean my 340WHP is too much at times. So far I went over 400WHP in mine one time but 91 octane is just not cutting it so I had to pull out.

I remember when 225 WHP was impressive in our Js, lol. Been on the ORG too long

this is the race section, not street section. why differentiate between a race car vs street car. then it's he said, she said. and more bickering will occur like it did 5-6 pages or so ago. this thread should have been moved to the performance section as i'm not sure how whp pertains to racing. some do whp for show, some for racing, some bc they don't know what else to do.

i dont see the problem between either.

so what if its a 'race car'. why would to dis-count it because of that? makes no sense to me whatsoever.

i could see maybe a notation but nothing more. because it does not matter.

Well I dont have a dyno sheet to prove but I have about 435 whp and about 500 tq but I do drive the car every day to work and into cruise nights in the city about 100 km away every week and usually to the track. I put about 15000 km per summer and have run 12.2 @ 121.8 mph with a lot of wheelspin. I will prbably head to the dyno in sept or october I have been haveing boost controller issues all summer and am currently back to the wastegate spring only which was my prevoius dyno numbers of 299 whp and 431 tq on a dyno dynamics dyno. This is on 10 psi and at the track I run 16-18 psi on race fuel.

Oh Geez that's all I had to say to get this thread active again, lol

I agree with most of you in saying that this thread has been in the wrong forum category for WAY too long.

Again I was not accusing anyone of not making these numbers nor was I bashing full race cars as I love them all, but it has always been interesting to me to see the cars that are in fact driven EVERY single day to and from work. To me "personally" these are the cars that impress because they are still streetable AND they can go and have fun at the track. I build my cars to drive em and for me having a car in the garage that can only be driven at the track would be depressing and a tease. The other favorite of mine are the cars that made a few fast passes and blew up and are no longer running at all. To me personally again that's no fun and not really impressive. I mean if I wanted to come on here and make 600WHP tomorrow I could BUT I want my engine to run another day. I would of course need Hahn to first send me a new turbo cause this baby 20G wouldn't cut it either, lol wink wink. That's all I'm saying.

The J's have come a LONG way over the years. It's really insane to see the numbers you guys are making regardless if it's daily driven. I just wanted to see whose still running.

What we should do is see who has the most mileage on the highest HP engine. That would be a pretty interesting thread I think. I know the first question almost EVERYONE asks "what kind of WHP can I get reliably" this type of thread might answer that with of course a million variables.

what would consist of highest mileage engine on boost? i'm at 114K and supercharged. but now i have forged rods/pistons. would that disqualify me? your making this more harder than it is. it's either got whp or it doesn't, no matter if it's driven daily. end of discussion.

my car is not a race car, i drive it on the street, i dont daily drive it nor need to i have a truck that gets beat up so the car doesnt have to, my car is normally trailered to and from the track because i have the truck to tow it and because a 400hp+ car on slicks and stock axles has a good chance of breaking...

Can't agree with Brandon more. Its not that I couldn't drive my car daily, but honestly why would I want to? Everything on the car is one-off or not easily duplicated. With my paint, its not like I can just "touch it up" if i get dings or chips. I have no problem jumping in it and driving from STL to Ohio, I have done it many times. I have another car (2001 z24 SC) that gets me around and has some battle scars from parking lots(work and other placed) that prove to me more why I don't want to drive the other car everyday.

Re: Top 25 WHP list :)

Well, with all due respect...it's essentially a moot point. It's natural that in every performance car's life, there comes a time when, if it is continually upgraded for higher and higher power, it will become driven less and less on the street. The point at which this occurs is largely a personal choice of the owner, based upon their own particular situation and preferences. Since it's a personal choice, and no two people's situations or desires are identical, it's not easy to compare from one car to another.

I even trailer my daily-driven street-tire 12-second Cobalt SS/TC to the track. Why? No-brainer...I want the equipment my trailer holds to be with me, whether I need it or not that time out. Additionally, should I experience an issue, I want to get home withuot the impact on my valuable time of having to call for a ride, go home, pick up rig, come back, etc.

With all this in mind, since the individual status of each car varies, it basically can only come down to how the car is recognized in terms of racing classes. If it has steel body, stock glass, full interior, is licensed for street use, and will fit into a street car racing category... then it also carries the additional weight/performance penalty of all these items, and it's a street car. Even if it NEVER sees the street anymore (ours still does, if only occasionally!).

Haha, yeah..we were going to on this dyno session, just for laughs...but we learned we were maxing the 120 lb/hr injectors without the spray at this power level on boost only (our ACCEL-DFI engine management adds N20 enrichment via the main fuel injectors, a super-clean setup). The spray is only an assist to spool the big turbo, to primarily help with the silly large ratio drop from 1st to 2nd. The DFI shuts it off past 20 PSI of boost on the track, so this is not an issue when we race it.

You need one of the new Precision billet turbo's man, what a difference over a straight ball bearing. And I couldn't agree with you more, I take a trailer to the track for the exact reasons you just mentioned. Sucks to brake something and then go through a whole ordeal just to get it home. I do drive mine on the street daily when I am at home but that is because if I break something around here its not a big deal to get it back to the shop and fix it. If I was out of town then that would really suck. IMO if the car has been inspected for the road and passed (we have yearly inspections), and has a full interior then it's a street car but thats just my opinion.

PS Bill....I made my power at 5500rpm and only 20psi

Since this is the org and all please no one take any offence to what I just said to Bill......It was a JOKE..HAHA. I think Adam and I have had a little friendly rivalry in the top hp category for a few years now. I beat him and then a few days later I am second again, lol. Good fun, keep it up.

Heh, you may be surprised to learn...it's a ball-bearing unit Garret turbo supplied by Precision!

Ah yes, you are undoubtedly going to make more HP per pound of boost with nearly double the engine displacement. There's no replacement. Witness our recent Corvette Z06 system...606 WHP on 5 PSI, pump gas!

Now lose the skirt and BOOST that old-skool grampa-car motor!

Also all in fun. I've always loved your car, and many would be surprised to learn...the first car we ever turbocharged, waaaay back in 1988, was a 3800 V6, but in a Buick T-type. Fun stuff!
