Then they cancel you. Depending on what company you are with and what state you live in, they can still count this against you. Allstate did it to me a couple years back. About 2 months after my accident, I got notice that they weren't going to "renew" my policy due to claims. This claim was filed through my own insurance which was then filed though the other party's insurance. Still got canned due to 2 claims within an 18 month period.
