^^^ Probably at me.

Okay, so then right and wrong is defined by what's legal and what's not.

so then 100 years ago when it was still legal to shoot your slave, then that must have been perfectly fine, right?
It wasn't illegal!

also
in the netherlands, euthanasia is legal,
so if the titel of this thread had read "8 Die in a Dutch nursing home"
then everything would've been perfectly legal, legit, and everyone would be happy, right??

^^^So your criteria is the fact they were defenseless?

that's what your first post says.

So with that logic, any child, people sleeping, anyone with a disability fits in there.

Sort of, but not quite.
The fact that they are defenseless only makes it worse.

And I was just making a comparison between the two scenarios posted by ScottAWhite, because I can definitely see the similarities between the two.

Harrington said: "One is legal and one is not, seems pretty simple to me." Based on that mental-lilliputinish line of thinking....

1) Slavery was legal, so it was right. Now it is illegal, so it is wrong.

2) Beating your wife in Saudi Arabia is right because it is legal. In America it is illegal, so it is wrong.

3) In centuries past, a king could have young boys be his sex slaves...legally, so it is right. Now it is illegal, so it is wrong.

4) When invading Iraq was popular, it was right. When it became unpopular it was wrong.

5) Child pornography most places is illegal, so its wrong right? What if it was legal in Camaroon? Would it be ok to do it there then?

I realize this is apples to oranges. Just because the law says its ok, doesn't make it right... There must be moral absolutes that never change. If society is left to determine by its own whims what is right...the flavor of the month if you will....the end result is every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

And I see, for the most part, the argument against what I said hasn't progressed past the neanderthalese language of "douche" "a-hole" etc. Very clever.... I guess if you yell the loudest, it makes you right.

You make ths most half ass comparisons ever.

Petting a cat is like eating beef jerky.

Driving a car is like throwing a pineapple at a midget.

You have to have a logical basis for making comparisons.

Abortion and old people dying isnt alike. At all. All the things you listed are morally divisive but no matter where you go killing someone is always taboo in an industrailized country. Murdering people who were born and lived lives for 80 years isnt remotely compareable to abortion in the main fact that there is no point at which you can tell me that a fetus is alive. Find me a doctor that can point to the exact moment when a fetus because concious of its own world and whats happening to it and ill let you have your way. But killing some who is legally alive for 80 yrs is different.

So I hope when youre old and decrepit, your gay son puts you in a nursing home so some dickhead can call you a worthless leech on society.

I have many friends who work in nursing homes. They say that their relatives often visit them. So they are not unwanted.

They need care, so they create a need for healthcare proffessionals, which creates what? Jobs. They are not a burden.

Now that I've uprooted the foundation of your argument, please reply to me with silly analogies about how screwed up laws are.

Sundown:
a) I realize you're only 16/17 and trying to make up for it by name calling and bashing, but seriously, grow up....

b) anyways...
Okay, so you define life by consciousness and 'being alive'

- how do you define being alive?
A beating heart? Because a fetus has one...

How do you define conciousness?
Ever watch a fetus get aborted? They respond to pain, so they must have some kind of conciousness...
Also, could you argue then that a mentally handicapped person is a good target to be murdered, because they are not really 100% concious about the world around them?
How about people in a coma? Should we unplug them immediately, because they're not concious...?
How about someone who fainted? May as well kill them too, they're not concious....
Actually, neither is someone who is sleeping... may as well knock them out too while we're at it....

How does that uproot anything?
Okay, so most old people are wanted.... but not all of them....

I'd say most babies are wanted also, otherwise there wouldn't be so many people around....
Babies create jobs for day care people, teachers, supermarkets, food making places, farmers (since they need milk and meat and everything else)
I don't think you've uprooted anything

Aborted babies are obviously not wanted. Which is what the asshat was making a comparison to.

So, Willem, how old is the earth? The reason I ask is you are spouting retoric that reminds me of the blockheads who believe the world has only existed for 2000 years.

As far as telling Sundown to grow up, his posts are far more intellegent and mature than yours.

Actually, BigBoy, you'd likely not find anyone who thinks the earth is 2000 years old. After all, it is 2009 A.D. I believe you are referring to the 2000 years since Jesus Christ walked the earth. Yep, until recent subterfage by the liberal intelligencia, it has been and and always will be B.C. + A.D. Current age my eardrum.

You wanna tell me to grow up? You call me names and tell me I suck dick in a different thread. I think you sir need to grow up. Judging by youre profile youre 35 and consistently getting owned by a 17 yr old in logical reasoning so though you may think youre high and mighty above me because of your few years above you are not.

Better word would be sentient. Fetuses dont respond to pain until like the 3rd trimester. Go do some research. They respond to a stimulus. Just like any other mass of cells or any single celled organism. Poke an Amoeba and it moves does that mean its hurt? No.

In people who are in comas and people who are fainted ,and what not, there is a measureable brainwave pattern. Unlike a fetus which DOES NOT have a developed enough central nervous system to show brainwave patterns or concious thought until the 3rd trimester. Third trimester abortions are illegal.

Have a nice day.

Big Boy Bob's quoteb"cognisant, cohesive thought" YOU mentioned the earth at 2000 years old. Not anyone else here. Perhaps your problem is with someone pointing out that you flubbed. To be fair, I suspect you were referring to Creationists, who believe that God created the earth + estimate the planet's age at 6000 years. Is that what you meant, or have you found a tribe in Des Moines who believes anything prior to Christ was a fairy tale, written by men to control the weak and feeble minded?

The age of the earth has nothing to do with this topic. Nice red herring though.

And that's only on this one page.... Obviously this guy is a model of maturity....

Sundown:
Quote:

22 actually, and i haven't noticed any 'consistently getting owned in logical reasoning'.... Just because I don't agree with the majority doesn't make my points illogical....

Quote:

Third trimester abortions are illegal.
Not in Canada, they are legal up until the moment of birth, as long as you do it before the head is out....
Also, Obama loves this idea (Partial Birth Abortion), and wants to implement it down South by you guys as well. Do some research...

Again, neither I nor ScottaWhite brought up the age of the earth, so it's great that you can google some idiots that think it's 2000 years old when there's books that are older than that, but it doesn't have anything at all to do with this discussion.

One more:
Sundown Quote:
Quote:

Fetuses dont respond to pain until like the 3rd trimester

Quote:

Our current understanding of development provides
the anatomical structures, the physiological mechanisms, and
the functional evidence for pain perception developing in the
second trimester, certainly not in the first trimester, but well
before the third trimester of human gestation.

Fetal Pain

also:
Quote:

Unlike a fetus which DOES NOT have a developed enough central nervous system to show brainwave patterns or concious thought until the 3rd trimester

But the fetus has everything to ensure that those brainwaves will be there soon enough....
It's the same as saying that since a baby can't talk, we may as well kill it, because it hasn't developed into a rational human being yet.... where's the difference?
