Okay then... Now, take your cam's lift spec & multiply it by 1.5 and see what the result is, then do the spec again to 1.6. Whichever result is equal to or less than .501 is the ratio rocker you should go with for sake of the factor of coil-bind alone. Valve-face to piston-face contact however is another story. Is this by chance your first build?
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
yup i am only 17 man i really havent done this kind of work yet
Well, you certainly picked a good engine to start learning with. BTW: Welcome to the Organization.
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
good info here. thanks for the links

Update: As of last week, Crane Cams has closed their doors. If you haven't gotten them yet, the Gold Race Roller Rockers and 10mm X 3/8" rocker arm studs (Crane Cams only, ARP's are still available) won't be around much longer!
I'm going to be looking into another company that makes rocker arms and maybe in to manufacturing some other products for the J-Body Community. Give me some time to do some research and I'll get back with everyone later on this.
Might want to tell them the 2.2L S-truck market will also be interested... Not all of us are looking to just replace it with a V-8.
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
cool how about some springs? anyway you could let me know as soon as possible, because i will be buying the springs for my head build soon with the ones benham used.
OK, I'm pretty new to valvetrains and was thinkin about gettin those 1.65 rocker arms
Harland Sharp 1.65 and was wondering if anyone knew part numbers for some springs and pushrods since i figure why not replace them if im already in there... Oh and I have a 97 OHV stock valvetrain...
Keith
Disregard the last post... just found out i threw a rod >:o i'm ditchin the ohv for the ld9...
Keith
Dam that sux. Must of been trying pretty hard to sling a rod in a low revving motor like the LN2. Remeber you'll have to change out the transmission as well for a LD9 swap as the bellhousings are different. You could also consider a 3100/3400 swap and KEEP your transmission as the 60 degree V6 shares the same bellhousing pattern as the LN2.
So since the valves are still opening farther with the 1.6 or 1.65 (harland sharp) the need for stiffer valve springs doesn't change right? You would still need the beefier springs? Or could you skim by with stock valve springs?
You can run the stock springs, if your running the stock cam with no worries. It's when you start to run an aftermarket cam or regrind that you need to worry, but that too depends on the amount of lift and the ramp rate.
i'm a newbie when it comes to regrinds... wat exactly do you mean? (You can tell me to put one of these motors together with my eyes closed i can do it, but when it comes to remaking parts i like to gather all the info first.) I know this is a little off subject from rocker arm selection so sorry for that.
yu send a stock cam to a company of your choice, i use northeast cams in northwood new hampshire. and they custom grind the lobes of the cam shaft to your engine specs to make more power
Okay guys been looking into doing a rebuild what i have is a 98 2200 going too need complete rebuild, wanting too upgrade pistons cam the valve train, i have shaved fifty thousands off the head, What should i use for springs and such too get something that has not much noticeable difference while idling yet opens the car up at throttle, also have checked into some +1 valves and am not having much luck following the links if anyone can post links for springs and a good regrind place as well as a general idea of what i would want for a regrind, and any where I may find some new pistons.
Talk to Karo on the pistons. $500 for any size, compression, and he's got all the info on getting them made.
Project Resurrection is in full swing!
Karo at CarCustoms.net has the +1mm valves for $100. I.P.P. has them(int/exh.) for $15.99 each or $127.92 for the set of eight. Aaron at TTR has them too, for $99.99
For valve springs, look into the Comp Cams 26981-8 beehive valve springs. You will need to have the valve spring seats machined down 0.100" to have the proper installed height. If you don't then you will wreck you motor! Be sure to make sure the shop has a 7mm pilot for the SBC spring seat cutter. I shop that did mine made his own pilot, after a month long fiasco at the first shop, who kept feeding me BS!
Camshaft regrinds typically run about $150. A lot of information is needed to figure out a cam profile. Call you favorite cam company or PM me with the details, when (if?) I get time I can design one for your application. With regrinds there are a few limitations on what can be done, but we can fin something good.
The final thing before final assembly will be to figure out the ideal pushrod length. Here's an article from Circle Track Magazine on how to determine the proper length. CarCraft has an article too. Other magazines and websites will too, if you search.
Ok i have 1995 cavalier 2.2. Bought and installed CompCams magnum rockers(1416) and 3/8 arp studs. Is it weird that i did not have to grind the guide plates? And also for the nuts, could i use fine thread 3/8 nuts from the hardware store because one of mine does not lock as tight as the others.
I installed them, took up the lash and a 1/4 turn, right??? When i ran it and it got warm i heard a tick Thinking that its that one nut got loose. I will look more tomorrow, any info would be appreciated, thanks
1/4 turn? I did 2 full turns, but I also have the hybrid lifters.
if i go that much the threads would bottom out with the nut.
I've been thinking and checking other sbc engines, are there any stock rockers that would work in the 2.2/2200? doing some comparisons at junkyards, and there are some interesting measurement differences. . . I'm going back again this weekend with my micrometer again amd checking everything, including other make engines.
anyone have some input on this beforehand?
Ok I bought some 1.6 roller rockers off Cbevis on gmscf
Got 3/8 studs off of orileys and they won't fit
I gave the 2000 2200 motor am I missing something? Forgetting to remove something or what here
They r comp cam 3/8 off their site they said it fits the car but it don't unless im missing so
Something
Sorry for not replying sooner, I just found this posting.
If you still have these, are they the ones for the 2.8L (60*V6), or are they the SBC rocker arms? The V6 rockers are part #1414, which use an 8mm stud. These wont work with the '98+ motor as the stock stud has a shoulder for the stock rockers to mount against. Some of the '98 and all of the '99+ motors use an 8mm stud stud base, so they can't use the stock 60V6 stud to mount these rocker arms.
If these are one of the SBC self-aligning rocker arms (part # 1418) the 2000 motor would require the ARP 134-7201 M8 X 1.25 base, 3/8" X 24 top rocker arm stud, from the SBC Vortec heads.
If the rocker arms are the Comp Cams # 1416, they will not work on the 2000 motor, as they require the self-aligning tips.
