Also, i got the oil flow diagrams for both 2.3 and the 2.4 that I will post up in this post sometime, but, scanner isnt hooked up, if somebody wants them, I will get on that.
You Gotta get on that. LOL

ok, i'm now the proud new owner of a M-136 Milling oil pump. and appearently the guy at GM also said that the crak gear to pump is discontinued...where the hell do they get these kids? i'd be happy with a used one. but it looks like gmpartsdirect FTW.
ok i asked in noobs section so i dindt jsut sound liek a tard in this post but no one answered... what are the pro's and cons of this?
essentially, only real need for this is if you have a higher horsepowered LD9. This pump just flows more oil so you have better preassure and you get rid of the balance shaft which weighs about 10-15 lbs. keeps things lubricated more thouroughly basicly.
actually the only real reason to get this swap is if you ever want to run safely above 5800rpm. There has been about 10-15 arguments about this (i have been in a couple) and the end result we all pretty much agreed on.. when GM designed the engine and the 2000-2002 GM s/c kit, on the engine dyno the engine started loosing oil pressure with a stock pump. The reason being was the smaller 2.4 (compaired to the 2.3) spins too fast and cavitates (aerates, foams) the oil and cause air to flow with the oil.
Having said that, people have successfully ported (have read about) 2.4 oil pump systems, and balanced the shafts and will argue that the 2.4 pump can be just as good, this may be the case.. but if you are reading this far, you know why you want to do the swap, and have decided whether or not you are going to do the swap.
I think I went over the reasons that I did it. 1)turbo charged, so I run a larger pan with 5.5 liters instead of 4.4.. to decrease oil duty cycle 2)proven to not loose oil pressure to my set redline 3)oil pump sits almost 1" lower than stock 4)complete windage tray 5) less rotational mass. Could I have the same horsepower with the 2.4 pump??? I would say very likely.

ok, for the pick-up and assembly, did everyopne use GM parts or did anyone think of using Melling parts for that as well. i get free overnight shipping so i can get that faster then GM parts.....so...Melling pick- up and assembly.... anyone?
that is a really good question, I can't see why it would not work, as long as it is the same as the GM stuff.

well i guess technically it would have to be since it matches the pump right? and it's made for a similar block..well i guess i can order it and if it's not correct i can always get my money back.
why dont you sell it for those of us who are not to experienced in that line of work just yet. Can you combine the 2.3block with a 2.4crank and have a 2.3oi pump? This line of work does not fit my schema just yet but asking to get a know how, thankz
GMR has got nothing on this
Awesome work, thanks a lot for posting this! I have one question.
Wouldn't it be easier to weld the flange from the 2.4L pan to the 2.3L pan?
- Paul
you ever welded cast?.....how about cast aluminium?....theres your answer. it's not easy. i'm no welder so machine shops are the best choice unless you know what you're doing. that or buy the Miller performance oil pan
Well don't you have to weld on an extention to the pan anyways?
- Paul
yah, any shop that can weld, ca TIG weld, so that is a small deal really.

the part number is 255S from the Melling website. i was searching around for pictures of what the Melling pick-up looks like in comparioson to the GM one and i couldn't find anything. so i'm just hoping for the best of if it'll work.
bump. oh and i keep forgetting to post this. the Melling 255S oil pump screen is identical to the GM one, so you can just order one straight from Melling if you have any difficulties getting ur hands on the GM replacement one. I went and picked mine up a while ago, i'll put up some pictures if anyone wants to compare them.
