This adapter was fabricated with the intent to allow the 2.3 intake manifold to be mounted to the 2.4 cylinder head without the typical grinding modification to the intake. This accepted and well documented modification (grinding) would open up the top portion of the intake runner to better match the 2.4 head. When doing this by hand a uniform modification to each runner would be a challenge. By using the CNC machined adapter you have uniform transition to the cylinder head at each runner. Since this typical modification to the 2.3 manifold does not address the miss-match at the bottom of the port it was felt that a transition from the 2.3 to the 2.4 would reduce the size of the air flow passage and thereby reducing flow. Since the reason for the manifold swap was to increase air flow this was not done. The design was reviewed by a motorcycle racer who is very much into these types of air flow issues. His opinion was to forget about the lower transition.
I hope this explains it better, the basics are that you are getting the same modification if you were just to modify your 2.3 intake, BUT if you want a uniformed and exact equal on each cylender ports you cant depend on a dremmel. This way you are getting an equal distribution of air/fuel to each cylender. Also, this is less heat transfering keeping the incoming air cooler and a lot easier on everyone, just bolt it up with minor modifying.
If there are any more questions let me know.
Chris

do these ports on my HO manifold look right? according to that adaptor flange, it looks like there should be some "grooves" on the top of the manifold ports, but it appears to be quite flat...anyone?
Where is the PCV hole???????

Skillz, what do you mean?
On some set ups I know the PCV port is ran to the air intake or a breather. Thats what I did with my supercharger and it works fine.
This are the old style flanges, the transition has a little different design to flow a little better.

There is a PCV hole in the head flange between the middle two post that will be blocked by that adapter...

from experience, i highly suggest unblocking that PCV hole... unless u like oil spewing out of ur PCV port off the block..

The manifold ports you have pictured are fine. The "grooves" you are talking about are why the adapter flange is needed. See on the 2.4L head, the ports have a B-shape (grooves as you put it) and since the HO manifold has oval ports, you need the flange to have a transition from the oval ports on the manifold to the Bshaped ports on the head.

I understand that, but looking at the manifold side of the flange in the pics on the first page, it appears to have the bumps still on it, not perfectly oval like the port on the manifold. However I think it was mentioned the pics on the 1st page are an old design, can someone confirm the new design starts off as the long oval, and transitions to the same port thats on the 2.4 head? Thanks guys
The pictures show the side that goes against the head, not the manifold.

cmunn99GT what phase flange do you have, 1 or 2?
Here are pics of the new flange if they help at all.
Skillz, I dont understand what you are saying. I am going home now to check out the spare head that I have in my garage. I have seen the bare head and ports of the 2.4 many times but just dont understand what your saying. The only two PCV ports I know of are on the middle of the block, one going to the air intake other to the crank case.
I will go home and check because the day is almost done!

Chris Fontana: I dont have a flange yet. What I'm saying is with the pics of the adaptor you just posted, the side that contacts the manifold isn't the same shape as the port on the manifold. It still has a bit of a 'B' shape to it (not as severe as the side on the head), where the port on the manifold is an oval. If thats just the way it is then I'll live with it. The size that matches up to the head looks perfect, woulda thought the adaptor would have matched the ports on the manifold exactly as well, I'll still be getting one in the near future...

Just finished my HO install with Chris' new flange on my 96 Z24 Auto
the flange fit perfectly no problems whatsoever...it also helped clear the ground bolt on my transmission so that was a plus. After the hour drive to work of me getting on it alot (first day of new mod, you cant blame me) the mani was still cold. Overall its a beautiful flange, kept the mani temps down like promised and matched the ports...awsome product....thanks Chris

this picture shows the manifold side of the flange. Its not an exact match to the oval of the manifold flange, it still has a ridge in the middle. If thats the way it in, then thats ok. But it doesn't match exactly to the port on the HO manifold, it would need that ridge on the top/center removed for it to match the port...maybe i'm over-analyzing it...
I got my flange yesterday, ill post pics tonight sometime. I can't remember if it has the pcv hole drilled or not like Skillz mentioned. I hope so.
