drop it down into 1st or 2nd gear on the shifter or pull the ebrake up a notch.

Or you can disassemble your center console, remove it from the floor and look at the back of the ebrake assembly.
There, you'll see a wire going to a ground switch. This is the connection for your drl/ traction control.
Tie this wire to a switch with the other side of the switch going to a good ground and you can then turn on and off your traction control along with your drl's.
PRetty simple to do so and something I've had for years now on my 1997 Z24.
Matter of fact, I got a Grand Am shift knob which has a thumb switch on it that I use for the traction control.
So now it's quite easy to turn the traction control on and off at will or when needed either at the track or for that occasional street race.
95% of the time I keep the traction control on which also keeps the drl's on too for safety.
Hope this helps you out.

^^^ holy hell ive never thought of that. ive always hated how the sunfires got the TC button and the cavaliers didnt...

so does it also turn the 'brake' light on in the cluster?

Brad if I remember correctly, it does.
But that's only with the traction control in the off position or if you want to disable your drl's.
To me, that let's me know it's in the 'on or off' position.

won't even come close.

all it's really doing is putting a small amount of tension onto the cable. not enough to effect anything.
