I have read through this a couple of times. But I didn't see an approx amount of cabling you need to do this.

Can someone let me know how much power cable I need to order.

Thanks

here's a pic of a stock battery, you need to use TWO side post adapters.

battery ground

battery to alt

you use them anytime you hook up an amp to a stock sidepost battery. go to autozone

google image search is your friend!!

hey wysiwyg i got a question how big should the fuse be that is inline with the wire to the altenator will a 100amp wafer fuse do the trick im running 4awg wire for the big 3 and do you have any pics of where the wire connects to on the altenator from the battery

If your running 4 gauge, you need 150 amp fuse, 0/1 gauge neeeds a 300 amp fuse.

Why run a 100 Amp fuse for a 105 amp alternator?

then jack it up

you can take off stuff around the alternator too. on my car i had to take off a few brackets and the big plastic stuff to get to it.

quick question the bigger wire the better right? I know it may not make a difference but I have some 0 gauge wire from a friend leftover can I just use 0 or 1 gauge? then what fuse would I need?

yes, the bigger the better. just make sure it is at least as big as what you're running for your amps. you want a 300amp fuse for your 0 awg wire.

Ok, I read how to do this a few times and I am still comfused, being new to most of this stuff I need some help.

According to what I have read I need the following:

1x Wire from the Battery to the Altenator
1x Wire from the Battery to the Chassie (ground)
1x wire from the Altenator to the Chassie (same spot as battery to chassie?)
...so...
Battery (+) to alternator
Battery (-) to chassie
Alternator (-) to chassie at same spot as battery (-) to chassie or 2 different spots?

Leave all the stock wiring connected to the battery and/or alternator?

What gauge wire is recomended for this and what fuses do I need?

Thanks a lot for the help in this.... really great post

Batt (+) to Alt
Batt (-) to chassis
Alt bracket (-) to Chassis

Its recommended either 4 gauge or 0/1 gauge.
4 Gauge=150 Amp Fuse
0/1 Gauge= 300 Amp Fuse

Leave all Stock wiring from alt and grounds. basically your just adding wire to the system. have fun

no need to put both grounds to the same spot, keep your wires short as possible.

So I would have a new Power wire going from the battery to alt and a new ground wire going from the battery to the chassis and a new ground wire going from the alt to the chassis?

How do I tap into the Alt's power wire.... it has one of these snap on hooks?
I run a wire from the Alt's mounting bracket to the chassis?

Thanks again for the help.

There should be a post on the back of the alt that may have a rubber boot covering it... remove rubber boot, remove nut on that post. Add your wire that you are using for the big3 upgrade. replace nut.

From page 1 (take note of the pic):

Quote:

Cool Again, either drill a new hole or connect this wire to the stock chassis ground. From the chassis ground, run the wire back to one of the mounting posts for the alternator (or to a bolt on the engine block).
