is my sub underpowered?

Hey guys ive had this system for like 3 years in my car... its working great just wanted to know if I could tweak it up a bit to make better bass... i think it might be underpowered?

Sub: MTX Thunder 6000 12'' in a sealed box -- RMS 250W, peak 500W

Amp: MTX Roadthunder RT251D http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/archive/2004amps/thunder251D.cfm

if it is underpowered what amp would you buy for this to make it work like it should?

Thanks
Jacob

Well it is underpowered a bit..but i honestly doubt its going to be a night and day diffrence with a higher wattage amp..i may be wrong..but thats my opinion..

ya putting more power will be just for headroom. Try porting the box for it. Thats would make it louder

i see thats what I thought so, its not exactly the best sub but it does shake the rear view with a good bass song. If I want to port the box can I cut a big in it?

Adding more power to make it pound harder wouldn't make it louder?

subs have their limits, you cant just keep adding power.
And buying an amp with only few more watts, wont be much of an audible difference to be worth it, imho

no you'd have to make a new box... ported boxes require more volume than a sealed box.

push 300 watts to it. you'll notice a difference

I have 2 10" mtx right now.

Ran them at 100w each. Sounded muddy, couldent keep up, no "punch".

Ran them with 275w each. Big difference, still a @!#$ty sub.... but for 50 bucks a piece, you cant go wrong.

Give it about 250w, build a ported box, and enjoy much better bass. The difference IS audible.

Better enclosure, would be a start. I mean the sub and amp arnt nothing great but if you wana increase out put and not spend alot of money, build a custom ported enclosure and go from there.
