Shifter Cable Broken at Linkage - Part Number Included!
Saturday, May 15, 2010 2:34 PM
1995 Cavalier
Automatic Transmission
2.2 L 3 Speed Transmission ONLY!

I had some problems the other day getting the car back in reverse after moving it. It had a bunch of play, in fact you could move it from through all gears without transmission reacting and it had free play. I troubleshot and found that the shifter had become disconnected from the linkage on top of the transmission. I have been tinkering with ideas on how to connect the shifter cable back onto the transmission however so far it looks like I have had no luck.

Has anyone had this problem before, if so how did you fix it? Did you just purchase an entire new shift linkage cable or is there a certain way this dome is supposed to press onto the pin on top of the linkage?

Looking forward to any help.

I tried looking at GM Parts Direct, however I had no luck. Would you have a part number or can you point me in the right direction?

Update -
1995 Cavalier
2.2L Engine
3 Speed Transmission ONLY. 4 Speed Transmission is a different part #.
Autozone told me this was a dealer item ONLY

Advanced Auto Parts will check in the morning but is pretty sure he can get it even though his computer system said he can not.

www.rockauto.com
labels this part as an ACDELCO Part # 22621784

This may help someone in the future if they run across the same problem.

I hate working on cars! I hate renovations! But I really hate paying someone $100 an hour when I only make $35. If I can't get any help with this then I guess I'll have to bite the bullet.
