thats not good, more power to ya for going forward.... gets harder as you get older....

Definitely some mechanical interferance there...

I have 90% of the parts needed to build the engine again plus a good group of people to support and assist me through it all.

I was on borrowed time 3-4 years ago and I have had spare parts and gasket kits laying around for this occasion.

That sucks dude That motor definitely didn't owe you anything...it went longer and at a higher whp that probably any stock twin cam ever did...LOL

I have just realized something, Jay.

This is the first time that engine will have EVER been out of that car, in 11 years. Most of them boosted.

That engine did you damn well.

You knew this engine was on borrowed time buddy, it just sucks that it happened this early in the season. Good to see that you are tackling it right away.

Man, that's too bad. At least I got a ride in before this occurred, lol. It really was surprising that it lasted this long. Everything happens for a reason and now she will come back even stronger!

I am really glad I can reuse my current block and it didn't grenade. Still not ruling out other debris from being the cause!

11.5 years old, 113,000 miles, 65,000+ miles while boosted, many many 12 second passes later...

Thats impressive. Many respects. Most people cant make a car last 650 miles boosted.

Inspection has been done.

Cold compression check was 180psi on all 4.

Leak down shows 8% on cylinders 1 and 4, 15% on 2 and 3.

Bore scope shows pistons 1,2,3 are perfect. Piston #4 is gouged but still intact. Ring land didn't break but now on borrowed time

Turning boost down and driving her till she smokes. No crazyness for now.

During that time I will be getting a fresh .040 bottom end ready to go.

Wiseco pistons are in hand from Jeremy's (Skilz10179) build and will be coated along with a fresh ring kit.

Eagle rods, ARP main and head studs, along with 2.3L oil pump swap will be done as well.

Head will get valve seals and decked IF needed. Mild porting as well. Just a clean up basically.

Unsure which head gasket to run.

If anyone would be so kind enough to link me the proper threads for the 2,3 oil pump swap that would be greatly appreciated. I want to forward them to my engine guy who will be handling the modifications and machine work to the block.

Daum that plug looked nasty, I feel for ya bro. On a side note your engine build starts sooner than you wanted but being that its been 11.5 years I'm sure your going to have fun and raise the bar once again. Looking forward to the build and good luck with it bro.

as far as the stock engine goes i laugh at other people in this world who condemn the LD9 due to its problems with bearing failure. this engine had this much abuse and WAS TAKEN THE EF CARE OF and has had ZERO bearing issues. just goes to show, owner love and proper maintenance goes a very long way. it took tons of boost to bring this monster down. call me a liar, please.

...with that said, i do still firmly believe in the 2.3 pump swap. even on a stock ld9.

2.3 pump swap "Sticky"

and i know you already commented on it but here you go anyway...

I think he knows someone whom just did a cage in an Evo, and a killer job at that.

Good call.

That cage is so pretty in person. So tight and barely seen unless you look inside.

Gonna be done for Woodward Cruise time?

Are those your end gaps for your rings written on the piston? That seems very loose, no?

Normally for boost its in the 0.020" range is it not?

I'm honestly not sure. He's an engine builder for Moran motorsports and has built countless 4 cylinder boosted engines. I'm basically leaving the bottom end in his hands.

The car should have a short block ready to go within the next month. Early July I plan to do the swap. Woodward dream cruise is a given!

those numbers on top are the ring groove sizes i believe. cant just go to oriellys and say yea i need a set of rings for a 2.4 twin cam. gotta measure the ring lands and grooves and see EXACTLY what sizes you need.

Whats this "Poured Compression Ratio?" Same thing as Dynamic Compression Ratio? If so it looks spot on.
