This sounds sweet! I just read all of this and I want one.

My one thought, from a programing newb:

I know a while ago Black Cat Customs was looking into doing a tac that worked to 8 or 9,000 RPM but there was too much cost in getting the software to properly calibrate the ECU. Will this be able to properly run a tac that high? Or is that another system, the BCM or something like that, which runs it? Assuming Black Cat makes one like that goes up that high. I just really don't want to mount an aftermarket tac on my dash.

Sorry if thats confusing, I am just looking for options for when I ever get around to doing my N/A build and I anticipate needing to go over the stock tac.

The tachometer and speedometer can be rescaled to whatever values you'd want...

I've been in Japan for the last week, so no real updates. Bought some more parts for it today, I have to go to New Jersey next week, so will probably be a couple weeks before I get back on it again with any real advances.

Eh, its not really all that similar... Its more like an SAFC than an ECU. His is a piggyback style system that alters sensor inputs to the ECU (just like the SAFC does).

^^Just was going to post that. It's not an ECU replacement or standalone. Just a piggyback.

Will this thing have some form of tune already on it, or will it be completely blank, requiring pre-programing before installing?

It should have some "base" numbers and a wizard or helper to get the car started. But tuning depends a LOT on what you have, so there will be a lot of tuning before it runs perfect.

Last questions, will you be able to replace the stock O2 sensor with a wideband and have the ecu run closed loop operations strictly through the wideband? Or will it have support for wideband, only in addition to the stock O2 sensors? Can you hook up an AFR gauge directly to the ecu?

Re: Coming soon...
Wednesday, September 26, 2007 10:58 AM
Yes, I'm hoping to have it be able to run from just a wideband sensor, but it will at least support the stock O2. You won't be able to hook an AFR gauge directly to the ECU, what will happen with the wideband is that the sensor will go into the wideband controller box, and the output of the controller box will go into the ECU. The gauge would tie into the controller box, not the ECU. This is because there is a lot of circuitry involved in controlling the many different kinds of wideband sensors on the market, and I'd rather get the input from the control box (which you get anyway with the wideband kit).

you stated in the beginning that the ecu wont support 4spds... when your ecu were to come out.. and i were to swap to a 5spd.. would i have any immediate problems? i know i would have to use hpt now to delete some things to do the swap.. but would ur ecu think its a 5 spd anyway?

thanks..

ps.. i cant believe your doing this for j's... un-freakin-believable.. thankyouthankyouthankyou

I think I can get the 4 speeds to work, but yeah, it would otherwise think it is a 5 speed.

Shifted,

I have not yet really had a chance to read through this entire thread, but I'd like to talk to you in a more 2-way fashion. I have some questions for you about this tuning system that you may/may not make.

I am currently working on my 94 Cobra, running a 347ci stroker and tuning it with a MS2 V3.0.

If perhaps you might wanna talk to me about the subject, maybe see if I would fit your requirements for a guinea pig.. so to speak.

anyway, PM me

Keep watching the forums for when I'm looking for beta testers, it'll be a little while yet, get a hold of me then....

Ok, here's what I just picked up:

(4) Atmel AT91SAM7A3 Microcontrollers
(4) Schmartboards
(1) SAM-ICE JTAG Programmer
Keil RealView MDK

I think I'll start writing the code within the next week or so, and hopefully I'll have found somebody to prototype and layout the board for me within 2 weeks.

Shifted, any chance in getting something made up similar to the DashHawk for real time monitoring and loading tunes in real time?

^ Sure, wouldn't be done at the time of release, but would be one of those add-on things that could be developed later. In fact, that thing shouldn't have a problem working with this ECU since it talks both CAN and J1850.

BTW, 58x crank position sensor, no problem
