Eh.

I have to disagree with ya Keep. How can you say that "well if you pick on people this is what you get" basically thats how you're justifying it. So when a girl wearing a mini-skirt and a tight tank top with her tits spilling out of it gets raped, did she get what she deserved? She was asking for it wasn't she? Would it be easier for you to relate to that situation if I said the girl was a goth? Just saying.

What if you put the shoe on the other foot, what if a couple of jocks shot those 2 losers instead? Eh just another day in high school for someone who is different right? Or would you put "what happens when pissed off baseball players teach the Trenchcoat Mafia a lesson? The Trenchcoat Mafia gets perforated." Of course you wouldn't, then it would be a tragedy not a 'lets get a rise out of the normals' tagline. It's all for attention Keep, your not that different, you want to think you are, you want to think you're going against the grain but your not-- you, a trenchcoat, some death metal and millions of others just like you are not one of a kind sweetheart. I get it, we all get it, but I know you don't care what anyone thinks thats why you started this topic with a @!#$ eating grin on your face "ooooo I was so happy I got this type of reaction." Attention. I'am sorry your mom and dad didn't give you proper attention growing up [much like D&E] but you're a man now, it's time to stop screaming out for attention and blaming your tortured soul on society like your so repressed, get over yourself.

Bottom line, your tagline is offensive and appalling. None of the people killed or injured that day deserved it, it was not their fault that a couple of little @!#$s weren't mentally stable. Everyone gets picked on especially when you stand out, grow a pair, suck it up, or let it ruin you.

Even if those shot and wounded did deserve it, what they deserved was a slap in the face, maybe a stern talking to or some social punishment, nobody deserved to die that day.

I could not avoid this thread. Maybe my opinion doesn't matter, but that's not my problem.
I can honestly say that I have no clue what all the fuss is about. So his sig has an "offensive" tagline on it. Offensive to some, humorous to others, and thought-provoking to others still. What it boils down to is something I think was called the... oh @!#$, what is it? Oh, yeah, the 1st Amendment! Freedom of speech? Freedom of the press? Any of this ringing a bell? Aside from the fact that I'm not entirely behind this country, that's a damn good foundation to build a country off of.

What happened at Columbine was pointless. Senseless deaths, all in the name of attention. Dylan and Eric wanted the attention of national media. What went down is no different than what happens every day, on a larger scale, with media attention. Media is the right arm of Anarchy. Things like this get blown WAY out of proportion. When you put names with death, it somehow means so much more than some poor, faceless soul with no family gets wiped off the planet. People die every day. People are murdered every day. Many of the murderers are never found, and a few years later, nobody even remembers the sick @!#$ that killed 'that one guy'. When the media intervenes, you have national panic. Schools began to put trenchcoats on the taboo list for dress code. Many installed metal detectors at entrances. Schools turned to high-security facilities.

Surely anybody who wears a trenchcoat is in a gang, plotting to shoot up the entire school without so much as a flinch. If we outlaw the trenchcoats, it will be impossible to get a weapon inside. Bull@!#$.

"What happened, has happened, and there is nothing we can do about it."

And what's with all the hostility towards the Goth people? Doesn't that make you just as bad, if not worse, than those who tormented Dylan and Eric? There's no reason to try and destroy the base of someone's persona just for some feeble effort to make them see things your way.

Keeper, I say keep the tagline. Whoever doesn't like it, @!#$ 'em.

Jason (Pilz-E)-

When I first saw keeps tagline I shrugged it off, cause thats keep just being keep, not a big deal. Then I read the topic in OT-- the other matt brought attention to it and the beauty of it was that I thought keep wasn't giving this guy the time of day, it was great I got a kick out of it. But nope... Turns out his tagline was all for this kind of attention in the first place. Thats my problem with it. It's not tongue & cheek thing anymore and now he's trying justifying this horrible event, all for what seems like a bit of attention because a few people got their panties in a bunch. This is beneath you keep.

Sizzy...i would like you to point out, exactly where, i justified the event other than, as Jason said, It happened.

I would also like you to point out where I said they got what they deserved.

Now, let me try to be as concise about this as i can:

Did they deserve what happened to them? No
Do I think the kids that shot up the schools were heroes, and their actions justified? No
Was the act cowardly and stupid: Yes
Do i think anyone was innocent in this:
No--everyone has blood on their hands, but having blood on your hands does not justiffy murder
Did I it mean that *whether or not you deserve it*, karma can kickback with the strength of an elephant: Yes

Would my opinion change if the show was on the other foot? Nope. I thought i made that clear in my post--apparently I didn't.

Quote:

Or would you put "what happens when pissed off baseball players teach the Trenchcoat Mafia a lesson? The Trenchcoat Mafia gets perforated."

No, i'd put something to the effect of "The trecnchcoat mafia gets to experience a grand-slam homerun from the ball's persepctive."

Now, aside from you trying to play the part of Freud, the reason i started this was, well, as you know, I love to debate--what better way to start a good debate than to sake the foundation of something that someone (the other matt) got really offended by, made a personal threat on (i.e. "Shoot me in the face if he'd ever meet me") and turn it to a debate topic. After all, I could really care less what people thing about it--but the debate is a good mental excercize--after all, last i checked, this is what the War Forum is all about.

If i was going to draw attention, i'd have a near-naked woman in my sig or dress up like Rip Taylor and talk in a Gomer pyle accent--or have a tagline like "Janet Reno is the fire that ignites my loins". This was just an insenistive, appaling, and offensive comment i made offhand during a debate of FFVII vs FFVI that many saw humor in and i thought would be a good one to run with for awhile. Doesn't make me special, a total prick? Yes--but i've never denied being one.

You seem to take me more seriously than I take myself.

Jason: I'll change it when i change it--when i come up with something that i think should replace it for better or worse.

Its offensive and reminds us all of a time we dont want to be reminded of. Thats the simple fact.

its like someone putting up:

'what happens when a rich powerful country funds terrorists to fight a war aganist russia, and they get their backs turned on them and the terrorists get pissed and use a 500 year old term to justify revenge? (See 9-11-01)

its offensive and gets on peoples nerves, thats the only reason it is there.

For @!#$ sakes I'am not trying to roast keep, I like keep. If I didn't like him I wouldn't of gotten so irritated by the fact he came across like an ego driven attention whore and busted his balls. Apparently my point is being missed entirely, my issue is about the purpose of it not what it says. Half the @!#$ I say is tongue and cheek, example- Borsty, you're a redneck cousin @!#$ hick. Now I don't know Borsty personally I'am just talking out of my ass and being careless about ones feelings over the internet-- it's up to Borsty how he reacts to it. But with something like this you know what you're doing with it, and I just can't see an honest intention in it, but you say it's for the purpose of debate, fine, I retract my attention whore statement, count me out and carry on.

As you said, sizz, you can say that (as I can post my tagline), it's fine--it's up to them to react. And going off borsty's comments, it's why i don't throw out personal attacks or the like--besdies, what fun is that? It's like debating religion and someone saying "you're going to hell". LAME. I don't know him, nor you, nor Matt, nor anyone from this site except those i've hung out with in person (limited to the JBNW/most of the BCJ's crew, and a handful from the 2k3 bash, and Fallen Angel).

Besdies, i don't mind being roasted--if i did i wouldn't have lasted a week on this site (i think Roofy, Fallen Angel, and Inky remember those days).

Anyhow, I may be talking out of my ass on this, Borsty, but not wanting to be reminded of something doesn't make the possibility of a future, or the past event go away--that's how I see it.

P.S. I liked your idea for a tagline, but i won't use it...

Why don't you little babies cry me a river. Life is full of offesive crap that I don't want to see. Your 9/11 example was perfect. It is true isn't? Sometimes the truth hurts. Grow up and deal with reality. People get pushed, some people bend like a reed in the wind, others snap like a dragon and come back breathing fire. You better know what you are dealing with BEFORE you push those buttons. Take 9/11 and/or Columbine as a warning.. Like I said before, people are dangerous animals.

Can we talk about something lighter, like say the masacre at Ruby Ridge or something?

well of course it wont go away, or be adverted in the future, but will still dont need to be reminded of it on a semi regular basis.

Then this is something i'm not grasping here...

How is day-to-day life not reminding you of it?

The fear i see in people's eyes reminds me of 9/11. The uneasiness--the shatted illusion of security. Same with columbine--how, as Jason pointed out, after there people expected me to change my style and who I was because of that--rather than to acknowledge that hey, some people that may look like those two asshats may not be like them. I see it in the way people are expected (though few do) fall into a lockstep march with the status quo rather than be feared because they do things different (Not just "goths", per se, but anyone that has a little panache and goes beyond the boundaries of what the status quo's comfort zone. It's eased off, but still, think about it--i go into a guitar store, sometimes i'm ased to leave my trenchcoat at the door--despite the fact i have my keys, wallet, sunglasses, and just about anything else i feel the need to carry around with me everywhere i go--and with the exception of the keys or the pen in my wallet, nothing would be consdiered an overtly lethal weapon.

...yet the same weapons can be packed into purses--especially large one, and backpacks--yet they get through unfrisked. Not that I care more than i'm used to a large weight on my shoudlers and a $400 coat i worked hard for is in the hands, if temproarily of someone else (and i'm sure that many of us on here don't like Valet parking for the same reasons ), but it's a constant reminder that the rules have changed--to me.

But I'm sure that unless you're blindfolded, and have earmuffs on your head, you hear about terrorism, 9/11, or the resulting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan on an almost daily basis. On a large scale, 9/11 affected more people than than the Columbine shootings ever could. But I'm wiling to bet that the Colombine incident affected Keeper more than the "average" person. Meanwhile, the Patriot Act, and other freedom-eroding Bushisms are affecting us all and unfortunately most of us are too stupid to realize it.

Would you guys react like this if someone put something like:
What happens when a bunch of soldiers jump off boats onto a beach with a waiting massacre? Soldiers get perforated (see also: Normandy)

What happend when the U.S. flexes their political muscle by dropping an A-bomb on Japan? Japanese get annihilated (see also: Hiroshima, Nagasaki)

Maybe you would if you had relative involved, but what about:

What happens when French soldiers think that outnumbering English seals their victory? French get massacred. (see also: Agincourt)

Nobody gives a @!#$ about Agincourt anymore. Hell, a lot of people have probably never heard of it. No one will car about Columbine in 20 years.

But despite that, Roofy, i had to deal.

Hell, 2 years before Columbine, i could wear my trenchcoat any time of the year and not get a second glance--just your typical "he's weird" sotto comments.

Afterwards...people started to become pains in the ass, but at least i could have fun with it--and my Solsice shopping goes by much faster when i have to visit that unholy bastion kniown as "the mall at christmastime"

People may not know about Agincourt but they still shoot "the finger" (aka the bird) all the time.

The french had said they would remove the middle finger of any captured English so they could no longer fire a longbow. When the battle was over English soldiers all showed their in-tact middle finger to the remaining French, giving the "the bird" (referring to the feather flights on their arrows). Now that is enduring history.

Actually, the Brits use two fingers (same upthrusting gesture)... because they took both of the fingers. Still use it infact... French captives could still do menial tasks like weild a sword... taking both the index and middle finger prevents them from being a greater threat.

Just a little historical tidbit.
