Where were J-body cars built?

J-body cars were produced in seven different assembly plants across the USA and Mexico.

The highest producing J-car plant of all time is the Lordstown Assembly plant, in Lordstown, Ohio. From the beginning of the J-car with Cavalier and J2000 in 1982, to the end of Cavalier and Sunfire in 2005; in total, over 6,500,000 J-cars rolled off the Lordstown line, a grand total of 4,596,283 Cavaliers and 827,830 Sunfires. Lordstown also built all of the Toyota Cavalier right-hand drive models. Lordstown now builds the J-car replacement platform, the delta-based Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac Pursuit.

Second in all-time highest J-car production is the Janesville Assembly plant, in Janesville, Wisconsin. Janesville built 1,814,013 J-cars between 1982 and 1991. Cadillac Cimarron, Chevrolet Cavalier and Buick Skyhawk (88/89 only) were produced there. Janesville now builds Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban and other large trucks and SUVs.

The Ramos Arizpe Vehicle Assembly plant is located in Coah, Mexico. Between 1991 and 2004, 1,049,762 Cavalier, Sunbird and Sunfire J-cars rolled off the line. Ramos Arizpe also builds the Buick Rendezvous, Pontiac Aztek, and Chevrolet Chevy (Mexico model).

The Leeds, Missouri assembly plant built J-cars between 1982 and 1988. 994,554 Cavaliers (84-87 only), J2000s (1982 only), Skyhawks and Firenzas were built at Leeds.

There are two plants in Lansing, Michigan. The Lansing North Assembly plant produced 94,235 Cavalier and Sunfire J-cars in 97 and 98. The Genasys (Lansing 3) plant produced 67,103 Cavalier and Sunfire convertibles between 1995 and 2000.

The shortest J-car producing plant was the South Gate, California plant. In 1982, 77,750 Cimarrons and Cavaliers rolled off the line.
