So it's a 99 2.4 with like 160k Km on it.
Started hearing this faint rattle (when hot) at idle a while ago. Now it's consistantly rattling at idle, in park or nutral, but still only when hot. If I bring the engine off idle, even a small amount, the rattle stops.
The rattle sounds like it's coming from below the PS pump, when I listen from the drivers side, and it sounds like it's coming from the back of the engine when listening from the passenger side. I was hoping it might be the PS pump. But the sound is unchanged with wheel input. I can hear the rattle from insode the car, and especially ehn at a drive through or the like.
1. Does this sound like WATER PUMP time??
2. Does this sound like BALANCE SHAFT time?
3. Does this sound like a spun bearing?
Background: I drive like an as$hole, redline often (for passing :-), have an intake and AT/Interceptor shift kit, set to fry my gummies through second every time.
i will most likely just let this problem progress untill I know EXACTLY what it is. But I would like to know if I should be finding a parts car or not, or perhaps saving for a new engine altogether?

if it gets faster as u speed up could be a few things,
rod bearings
main rodbearings
crank in the fly wheel
hitting you rev limiter will causany of thease if you drain your oil and it comes out clear then it is not your bearings, if it comes out silver your @!#$ its your bearings, new engine time, if it is clear it could be the fly wheel warped or cracked that is right there, and actually it would be called a flexplate on a auto
