what is so different between those 2 engines ? why is an Ecotec better than a LD9 engine ? I mean 2.4 engine is 10 Hp OEM higher than the ecotec and if we have to go boosted we'll have to change the internals anyway so aren't we better with the 2.4 ?
ecotec = 2.2 dohc
ld9 = 2.4 dohc
ld9 i think has more torque. it all depends on what you want to build.

you know there buddy, you might wanna search this topic a bit. this has been covered before hundreds of times

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
2.4 = 150hp and 155tq
2.2 ecotec = 140hp and 150tq
the numbers seem to favor the Z, but I've seen them have quite a bit of difficulty defeating ecotecs.
The reason the ecotec has an aire of supremecy around it is because it's a very versatile engine, giving you many options for power increase, and making your life easy when installing certain power adders.
Nitrous for example, doesn't have to tap the fuel lines since theres a schrader valve near the engine. Just plug in and bam done. No cutting or splicing.
Turbo chargers go on pretty easily since the ecotec has 6 unused oil taps throughout the block. 3 on the front, one on the side and two on the rear if I remember correctly... need an oil feed for your turbo? Just pick a hole and tap away...

personally i think my 2.3 is better than either one :p hehe
THE GUY SURE LOOKS LIKE PLANT FOOD TO ME!!!
i always wondered why gm ar neone else never made a big drag car out of the 2.4 like they did with the ecotec. i like the 2.4 but i love my eco!
Thoes threads dont prove anything.
One idiot tried to "bolton" a fast car and failed. Some ecos have dynoed almost 140 with just an intake.
People have been building and racin 2.4s for about 10 years. Ecos only have been out for 3. Not to many fully built ecos rollin around. Most are still under waranty. I say in a little more time when the ecos get figured out they will have much more potential than the 2.4s
I personally think the #s are too close to really say which is better. To me, it comes down to reliability and the ecotecs are a nice reliable motor that can take a beating. 2.4 can take a beating for a while but I've seen more people have problems with them when they reach the 70,000+ mark. I even have a friend who chose a 2.2 ohv over a 2.4 cause they had problems with them before. Both motors are decent though.

i asked my friend tonight because he has a cavalier and i wanted his opinion. his answer: they are GM motors, they suck, buy a mustang... i laughed. it's like the guy smoking a cigarette who is saying "don't smoke, it'll kill you".

Let me guess, you are an eco owner. Those threads prove that mod for mod, the 2.4 will still be 10 HP on top. QBE is no idiot, and neither am I, so I reccomend you watch yourself with those kind of comments, bud. There have been plenty of tuned eco's, NA, boosted and nitroused, yet the list of fast cars on this site show the LD9 to be the powerhouse of the bunch. Untill the list reflects otherwise, you have no ground to stand on with your arguement. Do yourself a favor, and stop using all the same whiney lines most other eco owners use. I can respect those of you who build good cars, like Josh Solomon, QBE, and a bunch of others, but there needs to be more like them and less like you to give the Eco a good name.

4 cylinder engines are bottom of the food chain, they are both meant for cheap, practical economy. they both have there ups and down, aftermarket companies have put more research and development into the 2.4's but GM has put more research and development into the eco. As of now the LD9 is the easier of the 2 to make fast, but I think its a matter of time till the eco surpasses it.
Im not sayin the ecos are gods... just give em a little more time. I know there are more than 4 boosted ecos on this site. Probally havent gotten to the track yet this year.
By the way I am building my eco. I almost have all the parts I need to install my turbo. My complete turbo setup cost alot less than "qbe" spent on boltons and I gurantee I will throw down alot more than 150hp. I think spending thousands of dollars for 15 hp is idoitic.
I totally respect you and your car. Low 13s for $1500 is awsome. Just sayin that thoes threads dont prove anything.
from what i understand ecotecs are more compact and lightweight than the other engines used in cavaliers and that may play a roll in this battle of the engines.
My ex has a 04 Sunfire. Only option is power locks. When her and I would race I'd decimate her off the line. Once she hit 3rd gear tho she'd start pulling on me.
did you try to drive hers and have her dive yours?
