Ok going on a long drive friday, am I better off windows up with A/C on (obviously an extra load on the engine) or windows down (so the back windshield catches wind like a parachute) which way am I better off?
I think if you drive with windows down and A/C on you will get .0183% better gas mileage then you do already........
I think A/C is the way to go it was on myth busters or sumthing like that one nite dont remeber which is better......pretty sure A/C tho....
Thanx Charles
Hey didnt they do that on Mythbusters, i think they did but i cant remember the outcome

hahahah well thats no help
I'll search the net for it
I always crank them down when sitting in traffic jams so I can flail my arms out the window in rage, then turn the ac back on when things get moving.
Either way, I dont think it hurts your gas milage that much, does it?
And even if it does, I heard that it turns out to be about the same, but Im sure it depends how fast your going also.
Heres a question...
I have a 4-door, and took out the child saftey BS so my back windows can go down all the way. Now, if I want my windows down at highway speeds, would having my rear windows down reduce the amount of mialge I loose? since my 'parachute' isnt as big?
You're reading my line-break, you are a loser.
my a/c doesn't work anyways. hooray for 105 degree high humidity missouri weather... and it isn't even july yet...
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
this kind of sucks for me... A/C = less power with my gm s/c... and i too am going on a road trip next week but i am going with my dads car club (Grand nationals and his GNX) and they like to get up and go every now and then on the high way when its all open roads, so i think its going to have to be A/C off for me or else ill be left even further behind then i already am going to be.. *damn 3.8L V6 turbos*

Correct. The mythbuster data agree with that, although they didn't interprete them correctly on the show. Their first test found a significant MPG savings (computer prediction of MPG from sensors) with A/C instead of windows down at high speed. The second test was meaningless as they used difference vehicles, did not standardize the fuel volume correctly, and reduced the vehicle speed (for safety--2 cars on track) while thinking they could fairly compare it to the first test.
