Oil filter swap for the 2.4
Wednesday, July 13, 2005 1:55 AM
I did my first oil change for my Z yesterday and 10$ for a damn filter is pretty expensive.

We all know the 2.4 need a PF-44C. The 2.3 need a PF-47C. Both filter have the exact same size. I know the thread is different and the hole is bigger.

but are they the same?!?!?!? I mean, nobody ever tough about trying to take off the adapter from a 2.3 to put on a 2.4 so he could use the PF-47C filter? It would cost like half the price for the same result.

Can we fit a 2.3 adapter on a 2.4 block?!?!? the size on the socket seem to be the same but I don't know if it's the same in the block.

We could even run the PF-52 on the 2.4 if we can use the adapter.

Anybody ever did the swap?

Not sure where you are getting your filter and paying $10 for it. I'm using a bigger filter on my 2.4. I think it is a PF52, or PF59. I will look today and let you know. It is bigger (long).

You guys know the 96+ Z24 uses the same oil filter as the C5 Corvette? Which also means it uses the same filter as my LS1 GTO

And by the way, unless you bought a K&N oil filter (which are expensive), then you paid too much.

i dont even pay 10.00 when i get it from the dealer , and its still under 10.00 from the dealer for the eco oil filter

i use the pf-59 or 61 they are a longer filter and fit the 2.4

they are like 3.00 or 4.00 at autozones

10$ CAD. The PF 52 should have the same fitting has teh pf47. I want to use the Delco only since I still have 20 000km of warranty on teh engine.

Just so you know, a non Delco oil filter does not void your warrenty.

AC-Delco got rid of the PF-44 and replaced it with the PF-46.

K&N web site list all of the vehicles that the 2.4 oil filter will fit on

The other way around Jonathan. The PF-46 has been replaced with the PF-44.

I don't want to use anything else than Delco. Even the Fram cost the same price as the Delco so it's not worth it.

Here the filter are pretty much the same price wether it's a Fram or a Quacker State or a Delco.

The Pf44 cost 9.35 to me plus taxes and the Fram is 8.47 + taxes so it's not worth it to go with cheaper stuff. I don't have alot of company to choose from. Fram, Napa, Wix, Quacker State and Delco.

Witch they are all about the same price.

K$N filter are 20$ here so it's ridiculous.

I'll try to swap the 2.3 fitting on the 2.4 block and see if it work. If it does, I'll use either a PF 47 or a PF 52. It's not the size of the filter that matther to me, it's the price. I have 4 new PF 47 for my 2.3 sitting in my garage so I would like to use them for my 2.4 since it's the same thing except for the thread size and they are half the price of the Pf-44.
