SS Ecotec in a cavalier?
Monday, September 12, 2005 6:48 PM
Hey guys, haven't been on j-body for quite a while and was wondering if anyone has done this yet? If not is anyone doing it or is there a reason they aren't? Would the bolt patterns and computer hookups be fairly simple to jst swap the motors out or is there something big that would need to be changed.

Thanks,
Travis Smock

Sorry, wasn't even thinking of the '06 2.4 eco's. I meant the 2.0 supercharged. If I had the motor and the computer how hard would it be?

I may have found a wrecked car to take the motor out of... If I did this though does anyone know how much work it would take to swap them?

It also is a throttle by wire car. Meaning there is no throttle cable from the accelerator to the throttle body. You would have to figure this problem out. If you do try, best of luck to you.

I noticed the TB was different. I could fabricate a plate to put on the old throttle body like airtronics did with his ion charger but would the computer be screwed up with a older style TB or doesn't it have anything to do with running the TB? Also do you think the computer woud just plug in or have to be completely rewired?

Is the 2.4 supercharged as well or are they only offering the supercharger on the 2.0?

couldn't you just use your normal 2.2 ecotec tb?

and if you find a wrecked cobalt ss the swap wouldn't be too expensive, at my local scrapyard i can get the engine, with blower for 150, and a computer for 15, and the other misc odds and ends, including the tranny for another 100 tops........so about, $300 (need beer ya know) i could swap in a ss motor........if someone would wreck their cobalts.....hmm, mabey i should go cut some brake lines

Are the trans & engine mounts the same, or in same place?

Will that harness fit in our fuse block?

If not, will the fuse block fit?

If so, will our IP wiring harness fit that fuse block?

If not, will our BCM fit that IP harness?

Will that IP harness work in j-bodies?

Would you need gauge clusters?

Is the programming for PCM's & BCM's the same?

I would think these questions should be answered before you buy the engine.

As for finding wrecked Cobalts or Redlines.... There was a major disaster not to long ago. Perhaps there might be some cars slavagable come out of it?

...i was gonna say the same thing about the engine and blower for 150.00. i am not gonna say YOU are , but I think you may have mis-heard what the junkyard guy said. i couldn't find a used isuzu tranny for my 2.2l for under 250.00 in raleigh...if he really is gonna part out his wreckers for those kinda prices, i wanna come visit your town and buy an engine and do a swap into my car as well.

neongreen.. The 2.4 is a 170hp NA motor

I will look at my friends SS supercharged cobalt this weekend when I'm home from school and see if I notice any big wiring diferences between it and a regular eco motor in a cavalier.

BTW, some of those questions are more for the 2.4 ecotec. Not LSJ, sorry.

More than probable, the LSJ can be swapped in to a cavalier. But still most of those questions are reassurances that it would be 100%.

not bs.....the junkyard is called Pick-A-Part in horseheads NY

an engine, with all belt driven accessories comes out to about 150 after the core charge, a supercharger accordign to them is concidered a belt driven accessory, and a transmission is 75 bucks there

they don't base prices off of what car the part is from, a dodge viper engine is the same price as a geo metro, i love that junkyard

if you need an izuzu tranny i can look this weekend and let you know what i find, although shipping would be a bitch for a tranny, at Pick-A-Part a tranny is about 75 bucks plus tax

My main concern is the computer. Does anyone think I can just reflash the engine management info of the 2.0 to the 2.2's computer or is that not possible? Also if I had the 2.0's computer how hard would it be to put that in the 2.2's place?
