Question about duals
Wednesday, November 09, 2005 10:32 AM
I was told that having a dual exhaust (the single that splits into 2 outlets, not a "true" dual exhaust setup) is deteriorating my engine. what do you think about this? Beucase its a car under 200 horses or whatever... i dont want this to be hurting my engine.

I don't see why it would hurt your engine.. it might make you lose power slighty, but hurt your engine HOW???

all it's doing is making another route for flow........

thats my opinon tho...

the only downside to duals is the extra weight. i've had dual exhaust on my Z for over a year now and it hasnt hurt my engine none... i think duals look good on cavs, and once i can afford it i'll be changing my exhaust to the same setup as u jazer... dont worry bout it, it wont hurt nothing on your car... and i doubt having duals would affect the performance gains, since u wont get much out of a cat-back exhaust anyway..

it shouldn't be hurting anything, if it is, something is terribly wrong.

Just as said above it's just another route for exhaust gas to flow through, that's all. looks pretty good by the way.

I think the right pipe from the back may suck in air sometimes but i dont see that being fatal to the engine

thanks guys. i knew it just lowered the back pressure having the 2 outlets but someone told me it was hurtin my engine and stuff and i didnt see how it could. i only got duals because i loooove the way they look and just having one looks offset to me. but i appreciate the input

who in the world told you that?? it doesnt even reduce back pressure...i dont think theres anything you can do AFTER the cat that reduces back pressure

Who ever told you that doesn't know anything about how exhaust systems works.

If this "theory" was true, my car wouldn't have come with dual outlet STOCK.

i dont see n e prob. btw looks good

ok he's an odd idea i came up with and wanted ppl opinions: having a custom header made to have "true duals" on a 2.4L, sound original enough?

very original, but i dont think that your motor will really benefit from it. but if you have the money to put into it, go for it, i think it will be sweet!

The fabrication to do so wouldn't be worth the end result. In the end, it will still look like an regular dual exit exhaust system.

I understand your reasoning but in my opinion, it's too much headache for little result...I mean if you seriously went up to someone and told them you did that, they would say "why?" and look at you like you wasted your time, cause most people will say that it's a pointless move and you'll probably lose power from doing that. There isn't enough velocity to seperate your exhaust in that way.

If you want to spend your hard time working on something original, I say do it in a different area.

so if i were to add another muffler to my car, i wouldnt loose any power?
i think i read on here awhile ago that someone was putting duals on their 2200 (which is what i have) and someone was saying that they would lose power???

is this true?? im thinking about adding another muffler when i get my Streetfire rear...

i havent noticed any loss of power at all. ive never gotten my car dynoed so i obviously cant be 100% sure but i feel that the car breaths easier since ive had it put on. (i also have the 2200) and even if i didnt gain anythin. atleast it looks sexy as hell
