what's the difference between...

What is the difference between the Magnaflow cat-back exhaust and the RKsport one? The RK has "Magnaflow" stamp on the muffler and tip and is 300 bucks. The Magnaflow labeled as Magnaflow sells for 550. Seriously, what's the difference?! Am I missing something? All help would be greatly appreciated.

The magnaflow cat back comes with a resonator, the Rksport 1 is their cat back just using a magnaflow muffler. No res.

The one that RK Sport has is made by Magnaflow to RK Sport's specs. Also, the one RK Sport has canister muffler(s) and does not have resonators. The RK Sport one tends to be on the raspierside.

The one Magnaflow sells has resonators and oval style muffler(s). This exhaust system usually sounds deeper because of the addition of resonators.

Should I get the Magnaflow then? I've heard of people getting custom cat-backs from 300 to 400 bucks. Would that be a better idea, or would I be better off with a cat-back made for my car? By the way, I haven't been on JBO that long, but I have to say you car is one of my favorites. Keep up the great work

It's really up to you. If I had to pick the Magnaflow one or the RK Sport one...I'd go with the real Magnaflow setup. If you can get a custom exhaust setup, go for it. Sometimes they come out cheaper and you get to pick what muffler you want and what resonator you want (if you want a resonator).

Thank you for the compliment on my car

Good luck making a decision.

I'm guessing without a resonator, I could end up sounding like a cheesy civic. I'll look around for an exhaust shop and get a quote from them then make my desicion. As long as it doesn't sound annoying when all is said and done, I'll be happy. Thanks!

From what I have seen, it's a canister muffler

^^ I'm with him. Magnaflow exhausts are MUCH higher quality for the price.

Thanks for all the input, this should help me make a good decision. Still probably won't happen till spring '06. Doesn't hurt to start my homework early though

I live in NH, it's getting colder by the day and I have no garage. If I get DIY cat-back system, I don't want to do it in the cold. I did that with my 85 Olds once in the winter and that was miserable. What was worse is it had to be done. Unfortunately my birthday is in the winter so if I wanted it inspected, it needed to be done. If custom from a shop is cheaper, I'll probably do it right after christmas.

By the way... I've heard that Borla and Thermal don't make cat-back exhaust for the j-body anymore. Does anybody know about that?

Haven't heard. I'm sure plenty of places still have them in stock though. Either way, custom is cheaper.

Got the magnaflow. Love it. A little loud, but great fit, styling, and peformance. What else do you need? I would personally get a resonator.

I'll have a sig someday....................
