ebay omz intake is junk
Tuesday, November 15, 2005 12:50 PM
i recently ordered the omz ecotec intake from ebay in hopes of it being a direct replacement of stock intake... i was wrong... it does not connect to the throttle body thus restricting airflow.. the item i purchased was not as pictured and the "chrome tube" scratches easily making it look bad. . it being one of the more expensive "ebay" intakes i thought it would be just as good as an AEM of KN intake besides the looks of it but i was wrong.. i left the seller negative feedback and he relliated by leaving me some as well, calling me a bad buyer even though i paid for the item right away and he seems to ignore the emails that i have sent him. i just thought i'd warn you fellow j body members that this intake is not worth the money

yeah but i was told an intake is an intake and the item i received was not the one they had pictured.. an intake for a 2.4 would be more of a direct fit than this one

This is why I only by name brand products, I'll pay the extra money for the peace of mind that it is quality. I always hear people saying that ebay intakes are just as good. IMO not even close. spend the extra for a perfect fit and qualitly peices.

You bought this peice of junk? That isn't expensive and you can tell from the pic that the elbow isn't going to fit.

that is not how it looks though the intake pipe isnt that long and doesnt have the thing for the iat sensor as the picture suggests

If it connects to the stock box on the throttle body, I'd say you got what he described. I actually e-mailed a few of them to get pictures of the intakes installed on cars to maken sure they were what I wanted.

So the second lesson for today woul be always ask for pictures.

Theres a lot of people out there selling just a piece of tubing to connec to the stock box and a filter on the end. Nothing wrong with it, but you won't get the full benefit of a non restrictive system.

damn, I wouldn't even call this an intake since it doesn't bolt on the throttle body from looking at the pic. That rubber box has to go if you're to get the full potential of an intake.

air intakes dont need to bolt directly to the TB, the boxes simply serve as a sound reduction ordeal, as well as take up space.

the rubber tube usually is the most restrictive and with the ridges inside slow air flow a bit.

while the expansion box, does decrease a bit of flow, it can still be used.

if you dont wanna use it...meaning the black box..., simply, stop complaining and buy a rubber elbow and a short piece of pipe and connect it to the TB.

next time dont buy off of price, but actually request the actual picture of what you are getting.

the pipes as shown, does increase the air velocity over the rubber pipe with ridges, so yes it is an intake, and yes it is a gain over stock.

That's because most are.

I have the 2.4,
And I know there are two types of 'intakes' available.
One connects to the factory airbox and is just an 'S' pipe.
Vibrant performance sells this type as well.

The other goes to the tb a.k.a AEM style.
And still there are 2 variations/pipe shapes for the 95-99, and 00-02 although they all fit all years. A couple of the older styles are even powder coated.
I don't se any AEM, Weapon R, Vibrant, Injen intakes pc'ed from the factory.

And yeah, the prices $10-$30 for the intake is just fine with me.
I do have a problem with some of the shiping on there sometimes though.

Same with the 2.2s. There are various type. Just gotta know your car.

Finally, if you want ot spend the $160 for the RK CAI extension.
Just pick up a 2.2L intake shaped like '?' (of sorts)
Same thing.

Have fun,
-M
