I know I already posted about this before but I have a few questions, I am trying to cut as much dead weight off of my sunfire as I can, I am keeping my radio, speakers, and heat, because it is my daily driver for now, I gutted all interior I mean everything, My interior consists of 1 seat and 1 seatbelt basically, I also just got an a/c delete pulley and gutted my a/c so thats another 35 lbs, I was wondering what else I can do here, I was thinking about gutting power steering and abs but how much weight would these 2 save me and is it worth it? Also I took off my dash and everything and was wondering how much can I gut back behind the dash, I wouldnt mind taking apart some of the brackets and seeing if I can pull them out without sacrificing too much integrity, let me know if you guys can think of any good weight reductions that arent normally thought of and are cheap or free ( ie. no lightweight windows $$$ ) thanks alot guys
If you have 1 seat....... you only need half the air venting...... take out the pass. side air venting stuff and block off the hole..... your side will be really good......power steering.... I believe if you take this out you have to get a different rack.... that has fluid inside that isn't getting cycled around by the power steering pump......etc.....
...abs..... NO don't worry about it......
take out your air bags....... unless you already did ............. they weigh a bit..........
did you take the bumper off and get that thick rubber off ................ ummm................take off your heat shields ... i mean ALL OF THEM ..... I have not one..... no hood, exhaust, NOTHING.....

I'd also say cut the inner skins on the doors, rear seat area, the roof supports, hood and trunk lid inner supports, etc, but if you do that make sure you add a roll bar or cage with side protection or if you get t-boned it'll hurt. Bad.
did u do the whole a/c system of a short one wiht a/c compressor and condensor..or did u go all out and take out the evaporator and all a/clines?...less weight helps with better gas mileage

hey i stopped working out and went on a diet, lost 22lbs. all for my car..
well actually i stopped working out and ate less becuase i came attached to my car and car research more

Oh yeah, I am interested in taking off those rubber pads as well, anyone want to help me all tell me how?
Oh and what are they supposed to do, the rubber pads?
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2208703
haha well the rubber pads are supposed to keep the bumper from cracking if you get in a parking lot fender bender, that way it just sort of pushes back and pops out almost like a trampoline so to speak, if you dont have them and someone hits you your whole front end will just crumple, but I nonetheless I still want them out, anybody have a walkthrough? The front and rear bumpers on this thing are more of a pain in the ass than my trans am, and I thought that was impossible hehe.
PM me a walkthrough? But for all the rubber pads, not just the bumber ones. The Transmission and the hood and anything else I can gut out other then the basic interior. And do the paddings have anything to do with heat protection, becuase it sure as hell gets really hot down here a lot in Houston, and very humid as well. Thanks.

ya I got a walk through ...................
1. Take of the front bumper, that includes unbolting the fender liner
2. Rip off the rubber stuff, that includes ripping...maybe some prying...
3. Install front bumper
4. make sure steps 1 through 3 were followed...
Simple ???
I THINK SO

ive been without the hood insulation for 2 years now no problem. i doubt it is a heat issue for example feel a black car that has been sitting in the summer sun, your motor will never make it as hot as the top of the hood is . so you will be fine

Joking..........................
but seriously...............
1. Take of the front bumper( 4 bolts, 2 per side) (4 clips front top under hood)
2. unbolting the fender liner (6 bolts a side 8mm i think.....)
3. Rip off the rubber stuff, that includes ripping...maybe some prying...

4. Install front bumper( 4 bolts, 2 per side)
5. Bolt up the fender liner (6 bolts a side 8mm i think.....)
6. make sure steps 1 through 5 were followed...(make sure step 6 was followed)

a couple of ounces? look I'm being realistic with weight reductions I dont know why everybody has to be all smartass about them, I know the pros and cons of weight reductions and I dont really care, its not like J-bodies have very nice interiors or option packages anyway, so I might as well make it a tad faster.
if u want to get crazy, u can cut the spare tire wheel well out and weld a flat piece of aluminum in its place. there was a crx that did that around here. u can also cut windows in the firewall.
their kinda extreme but will help.
i was thinking about switching from a heavy ass fuel tank to a lightweight fuel cell mounted in the trunk, that way I could drop the big heavy tank.
