Will jbp stage II's pass emissions?
Tuesday, January 10, 2006 4:39 PM
Hello all I'm new to the LD9 scene and I'm gathering info for a mild ported head / cams / HO intake /62mm tb setup for daily driver usage and I want to know if the JBP stage II cams will pass emissions? 260* @ .050 is an awful lot of duration for such a small engine.

most likely not, but it depends on how lenient the smog laws are where you live. I know out here in Cali where I live there would be no way in hell it would pass.

as long as its a 96+ (ODB-II) all they do is check for fault codes and mae sure the rediness monitors are set... so as long you don't get check engine lights your fine

Is your car lowered. Cuz I know with my 02 cav and LS lips and lowered with eibach sportline springs, my car wont go up on the ramp for the emissions dyno so they have to do an of the ramp drive clean which is a lot easier to pass.......

maybe just a pirk of my job working at a Chevy dealer but its worth a try....lol

Its not 260 at .050".
A 16V motor wouldn't idle below 2000RPM with duration like that.
I spoke to them(to inform them that their info was wrong), and they told me it really was 260.
The guy who grinds their cams won't tell them what it really is, and they have no idea what it really is.
Someone needs to degree a set, and see.

Ok, I knew I wasn't crazy, maybe they're in the 220 -230 @ .050 range which would make them more streetable.

They're probably closer to 210 at .050"

read what I wrote right above you... they DO NOT dyno OBD-II cars

They put newer model cavs up on the dyno ramp for drive cleans/emissions all the time......plus it doesn't say what car/year he has.

But either way I know I have seen it doen many times at my work, you say they dont do it to ODB-II.......maybe they just put it up on the ramp for no reason I dunno Im just a lot boy there but wash cars right next to it and they will still run it on the dyno at 40km/h so what test are they doing there then.........

and like I said, my car wont get up on the ramp without scraping the lip ect. so they do something diffent off the ramp which is easier to pass according to the guys at my work who do it......

well maybe its different where you live but there is no longer ANY obd2 cars that see the dyno. Its been changed for a while now, you only dyno pre obd2 cars. And as for a ramp.... I don't know what kinded of @!#$ up setup there is by you but theres no ramps... your not on a chasis dyno... you drive the car foward and stop with the drive wheels inbetween the 2 rollers that are almost flat with the ground, once your in poostion the little section in between the rollrs is hydraulically droped down so the drive wheels are resting on the rollers with the car sitting flat at regular ground level. I've never even heerd of a ramp up to a dyno for anything emissions related, its alot different then a dyno for testing horse power and torque. But again even those dynos are only used on the pre odb2 cars now days

As far as i know we don't have emissions in our state. But from what i under stand if you have an OBD II and the cams are not throwing a code you should be fine.

Ya thats what I started thinking, that other places have the it even with the ground........I'll take a picture of it tomorrow and post it here, you will see....lol

but everything you said is the exact same(you drive the car foward and stop with the drive wheels inbetween the 2 rollers that are almost flat with the ground, once your in poostion the little section in between the rollrs is hydraulically droped down so the drive wheels are resting on the rollers with the car sitting ) except at my work for what ever reson there is a ramp to get to all that........

when you see the pics you will understand why a lowered car would not make it.....plus you will probably think it is retarded and it really is....i think th eonly benefit from this way is you can move it, not easily but it can be moved from one garage bay to another.....you will see tomorrow....lol

where are you from that they allow th dealership to the official emisions tests?

you don't have the "clean air" buiildings or whatever that you have to take it to? AT work we have a 4 gas analyzer that will get you preaty close to actual figures for emisions readings but it has nothing to do with the actual emisions test, here it has to be done at the specific state operated facilities.

Not here....here (Ontario Canada) you get a notice in the mail to get a new licence plate sticker and if neccary depending on year of car and depending on the last time you had one it will tell you you need an E-test in order to get your sticker. so you take it to say the dealership I work at(Wilson Niblett Chevrolet)(#1 Corvette dealer in Canada lol) and when you pass you bring those papers to the DMV and buy your sticker and you done...........

Yes they will pass both and idle and driving test... at least they do here in BC to my knowledge. Your results may vary.

BTW, I sent you an email... been trying to get rid of these cams forever. Must buy ecotec parts!

Wow.....well I diddn't notice how rusted and @!#$ty it looked untill now. Anyways here are the pics of my E-Test dyno.....as you can see are car lowered enough would not clear it so they do the test off the ramp which is a lot eaiser to pass.
