I have a 98 Cavalier Z24 with the 5 speed isuzu tranny. I have several mods but but low 15's in the quarter shouldnt cause this?
Any way, I was at the track the first time my driverside axle blew out. Since then I have gone through around 4 or 5 driver side axles. Some times They last a few miles sometimes they last a few feet. Knowing my tranny mounts were sloppy I replaced the rubber inserts with stiffer inserts. So I replaced the axle and decided to test it out. I did several burn outs around my house and in my drive way to make sure the axle wasnt going to break. I then proceeded to take the car to a more secluded area to do one final test. I put it in first, dumped the clutch and as soon as the tires started to spin the passenger side axle blew!!!
Some one please save me. I have been with out my J since early last summer. I miss it....What the heck is wrong with this thing??

maintance forum please.
either they are not installed properly, or your not taking care of them.
Is it breaking at the CV joint or where it meets the tranny?
They are installed correctly no questions asked. It is breaking at the joint.
Since when is there a propper way to take care of an axle? as long as it has a boot and theres grease inside which there obviously is since most of the axles I bought were brand new theres not much to an axle.

odd, last time i replaced a cv joint, it had the boot and VERY LITTLE grease in it, so i filled it up, i havent had any problems since.
Well it only takes a little wheel hop on these Izuzu's with the open diff, but still, that seems very strange, maybe try cutting back on the burn outs, get some slicks, or look into a LSD insert or tranny swap, that might help out a bit. I still find it odd that you can burn through that many, do you like burn out all the time or something? I've honostly never seen someone go through that many that quickly, you might hold a new record here on the org!
stop abusing the heck out of it maybe.....
another possibility is spend the money on some heavy duty drive shafts if your going to continue burning out everywhere
lastly toyo proxes are a fairly sticky tire, so burning out on those is only going to worsen the problem.
When your burning out the car is fighting the friction of the tire which is much more than the amount of force it takes to move the car.

I have the same problem with mine go through cv joints like crazy...gone through like 6 on the driver side all the same they separate at the joint close to the trasmission i think its the rims though...let me know what you find out...i was looking at performace cv joints but there like 500 each...
why not get the stage 2 axles?
BTW:
Quote:
Engine:
Injen(WAI)
RkSport dual cat back system
RkSport 4-2-1 header
2.5 inch high flow cat
removed AGR valve
60mm TB
Miscellaneous:
spec alum. flywheel
Spec stage 3 clutch
Rk upper motor mount insert
RK lower motor mount
o2 sensor sim
what an AGR valve and why are you running a stage 3 clutch without any decent modifications?

Is there any relevance in what you just asked???
http://nystreetscene.com
yes, If you dont know what your talking about, it gives a point of reason that you dont know what your doing.

or maybe he typed it wrong and meant EGR vlave? and maybe he's like my buddy who got used to a stiff clutch on another car and likes that feel. Neither of those things has anything to do with his problem so your post only serves to start an arguement. Cease and desist.
Now then...I'd suggest getting some upgraded axles and killing the burnouts. Burnouts are the easiest way to hurt a car, and not just the axles. Just because we racers do it doesn't mean everyone needs to.
And trying to burn Proxes dry is just a bad idea to start with. They have such a grippy compound that your gonna chew your car up before you chew them up...which might be a big source of you issue.

I used to race cars, now I race myself.

I guess you missed this part hypsy
No I didn't miss that. I was refering to your completely useless post that I quoted. Anything further you would like to contest me on?

Yeah, can i send you some pubes in the mail?
Replace "dumping the clutch" with a bit more slip. I suspect you're snapping them due to the amount of force suddenly applied.
Overall power, the axles will out-last most of the rest of the drivetrain. Yes, even the hunk-of-junk Isuzu trans (it's not really that bad... at least it's not a Lada drivetrain!)
I only know a handful of people who can snap axles by over-powering them, and they're all in the 400+ hp range.
Not much... but enough to make it driveable.
The only other person I know that broke an axle with a stage 3 clutch did it with a mostly-stock car (just an intake) and was guilty of the 'dump-n-snap'. Broke the axle off right at the end of the spindle, never seen one break there before

He is better with the clutch now!
But seriously.... why do people go with a stage 3 clutch on a stock car? What's the point? I'm pushing more power myself, and I'm fine with a stage 2. I'm not even worried about the clutch holding the power, when I put nitrous on top of the blower.
Wow, all the pain inflicted to my ego in this post is going to leave me traumatized for life

. Haha ok seriously though I installed a stage 3 because my stock clutch went poopy(aka for el fuego, and yes i had to refrain from mistyping that, clutch was bad). Any way I ordered a centerforce clutch, it was cheap, but I installed it and went on my way. well it was my frist time with the tranny out(this was over 2 years ago) and it was the biggest PITA job I had ever done on any vehichle. But I got it back together with tons of complications and took it out for a spin. Well evan under normal driving conditions the clutch would slip 1st gear through 5th gear. That was a little annoying, I got pissed and decided to go all out, stage 3 clutch and alum flywheel.
There you go story of my life and I bet no one read it.
Any way I drove the car with the stage 3 clutch for 2 years. with everything except the bigger rims and sticky tires. I drove the car for a year with everything including rims and tires. I then added a 60mm TB and drove it on and off for a month with everything. My last trip to the track It randomly blew an axle shifting into second gear and I have been having the problems ever since.
Now im sure im just going to get a bunch of hate from "the grounded one" and a bunch of repeats from above but for everyone who actually had good input up to this point I greatly appreciate your thought and effort.
Oh and yes, switching to a stage 3 was like learning how to drive all over again but that was around 2 years ago and now between practice and wear, I can ride the stage 3 almost as much as a normal clutch.
About the comment on knowing what im doing in the past 2 years I have had tons of experience with pulling trannies and axles and last time I had my tranny out I had it back in by myself with the motor in the car in around 45 minutes.

Oh god, I need to add before people start pointing more figners, yet i know there was a 500 mile break in period on the clutch and yes I generally waited 500 miles. Also I would like to add the burn outs will never stop! Burn outs make the world go round...

LOL. Well then don't expect much help here...

Blew it up
I roasted half of the rubber off my Proxey4's in a matter of minutes with no axle breakage. Must be the weather was nicer that day cause the axles didnt break.
