Need help hooking up gauges - Help Me, Get a Prize
Sunday, March 26, 2006 1:55 PM
Hi,

I'm gonna seem like a total newb but please walk me through this because I'm here at the request of my mechanic, who specializes in Ford performance. I hope I ask this question correctly...he's willing to hook these up for me but too busy to do the research.

Which O2 sensor should I use to hook up my electrical Air/Fuel mix gauge? And is this sensor before or after the cat? He said there should be several wires leading into this area and to find out what color the correct one to tap into is. My gauge only has one wire to plug in.

Also, any possibility I could get a pic of where to install the Oil Pressure sender on an 03 Cavalier Ecotec? I was looking at a schematic and I see a couple of nubs on the side of the block, but pics would help a lot.

The person(s) who comes up with the correct answer first to each question will receive a free CF Ecotec plate or dimmer, etc for helping me out. I've been waiting forever to get these hooked up but I have no mechanical knowledge. I'm doing a Group Run of CF and would be happy to give some parts away in exchange for good help.

Thanks!

Steve

For the Oil pressure..just t off of your existing stock oil pressure sender...right below and to the side of your starter, on the front of the engine. Picture to follow if needed.

hope this helps

Not sure about eco, but the oil pressure sender on a 2.4 can go in between the cam towers where it would replace the stock oil pressure sensor. Good luck,

Blew it up

I'm gonna do a little more research but I'll definitely do some rewards for accurate info. I think I understand the air/fuel sensor...on the oil pressure, I'm not sure if my car HAS a stock sender since I don't have a stock gauge. Can you supply more info?

Black Penguin - can you supply a pic? Can anyone confirm Black Penguin's info will work on an 03?

Not saying that anyone here is wrong (you guys obviously know more than me) I just want to confirm since it seems like every year is different.

Thanks for the info so far - we are halfway there it seems.

Steve

Your car still has a sender despite not having a gauge. Just so happens that you can use that same sender to tap the Autometer sender into. With some simple plumbing you'll be good to go, cause you'll need to "T" into it if I'm looking at his pic correctly.

Yes Black Penguin is correct, with pretty much all new GM cars, including yours. First/primary o2 sensor, tap the signal into the purple wire.

make sure you connect to the 'harness' side, not the sensor side, of the O2 harness.....

thats for an oil pressure install on an LD9, and shows you what could possibly happen while tee'ing off the existing sender. Trust me, you dont want what happened in that thread (which happened to me) to happen to you...

Agreed...thats why I posted the picture on my 04 Ecotec...his will be the same engine, same location, etc as mine.

Yep

I PROMISE I won't forget to take care of the prize awarding, I have just been busy as hell at work and doing some GPs etc. I'm going to schedule my gauge install soon and I'll be reminded then to come back and take care of that.

I'll take any part you want to send me.

What do I have to chose from.

Or, do I even have one coming since the Biz is no up for sale?

If I had a choice...Carbor Fiber Door things...I got a 4dr.
...Or the Carbon Fiber ECOTEC valve cover thingy
...If neither are avaiable, what ever you want.

Me Sad if nothing comes
