I have noticed that a lot of people have upgraded their throttle body. How big can i go? Does it involve any modification? What exactly is the stock TB size on a 1999 2.2?
What other mods do you have? A bigger tb is pointless on a na 2.2 ohv.
2012 HD VRSCF
2010 Ford Explorer
2006 Ford Ranger
2004 Chevy Cavalier
i think you can only swap the throttle body if you have a 2000 plus 2.2
You can change the TB on any '98+ 2200. It won't be much good till you have an aftermarket intake, a full header back exhaust and a P&Ped head at a minimun. You wont flow enough air N/A to really need more air flow till atleast that point. Don't go any bigger than 56mm (2.3L Quad TB) on a N/A motor, you can go up to 59mm on a boosted motor.

what about if you just have the intake and header/full exhaust? would the 56mm help me out or be worth it? or would i definetly need the P&P to notice a difference?

You will still see a minor improvement in top end power, but will be even greater with the improved air flow of the P&P.
what does a port and polish usually cost for my 2200?

Patriot Performance is working on the 2200 head. Talk to Ryne at Team Vision Racing, hes getting some done at much better prices than that!
