how bad of an idea is it to put a universal cold air intake on a car? It's 50 bucks from my local Auto Zone, and I dont want to spend over 100 on one

If it fits go for it. An intake is an intake is an intake.

i just bought an in take for both of my Z24s off of ebay and they cost $38 shipped for each one, and they are meant for the car not universal. i would look there im sure they have one for your car, it would be alot better than using a universal one. oh and fill out your profile so we know what kind of car you have and we can post some links to some intakes and other thing that you might want or need

If it fits, has a bung for IAT sensor, and has a port for PCV hose (if you need it), then you're ready to rock. Homunculus[6(sic)6] makes a good point. My first intake on my Z was a $30-40 unbranded eBay system made for my car. Never had one problem with it, and got it for next to nothing. Consider that possibly as opposed to the AutoZone intake. Guarantee you'll find a billion of em on eBay.

Agreed. Mine came from eBay, only thing I had to do was extend it over to where the stock airbox would normally be. I spent less than $50 for the whole thing shipped and that's after I bought some extra pipe for the extension. But like I said originally, an intake is an intake... Just as long as it has a place for the IAT and the PCV, it doesn't really matter where you get it from.
