Engine Mounts-Is this common?
Saturday, April 29, 2006 11:13 AM
I just put the upper and lower mounts on my ecotec. Runs good, but I have noticed that the engine sound is much deeper. I dont mind it, I just hope its nothing wrong. Has anyone else experienced this, or do you think this could be a problem such as an exhaust leak? Thanks.

With motor mounts your car will shake at lower RPM's since the motion of the engine is transferred to the driveline and body. As for the 'deeper' sound, I have no idea what you're talking about. I didn't experience anything like that with my car; but if your car runs fine then it could just be you. Maybe someone else will chime in with a better suggestion.

Blown.

i did notice that aswell. i dont think its the engine noise changing per say, rather just the cabin noise changed so it would appear to make a different noise.

I also just installed the upper and lower mounts yesterday and the engine is twice as loud in the cabin. I cant even here the intake as much as I used to because I hear the vales and everything. I am pretty sure that it is just the sound reverberating throughout the car. I also noticed that you can hear the exhaust more when it is idling (I don't have an aftermarket exhaust). Finally, I am very happy to say that the vibrations are not nearly as bad as I was expecting. It vibrates pretty good when you first let the clutch out but other than that it is barely noticeable

The same is true in audio installations, the term is bone conduction. The vibrations are more directly harnessed to the body of the vehicle now. You ever try to hang on to something that is shaking really hard, like the uncle fester game at the big arcades?? You start to shake too, the new mounts you installed are much more rigid so in effect what is happeneng is other parts of your car are feeling the vibrations now too since the old "cushiony" rubber mounts are gone. I have heard of peoples windshields getting a little loose from this, nothing to worry about though.

Little over a month. Everytime I start my car the whole dash shakes, and I hear about 3 different rattles now while driving. I'm not sure that they are worth the money................

the dash crack has very little to do with the engine mounts

it happens with out mounts

Okay, now i'm getting nervous. Now that I have the mounts on I am hearing all of these horror stories about windshields getting loose, dashboards cracking, etc. Who here has actually had a serious problem due to the motor mounts? Should I take them off? Who has had the mounts on for a long time and had no problems? If things on the car are going to start to fall apart then they may not be worth it

gf's cav 02 eco 5spd has 60k on it , no problems other than the standard vibrations

We designed an ecotec upper engine mount to have less vibrations inside the car. Actually a lot less, if any. Yet it still performs great, they are shipping right now and are avaliable in many color combos.

chill out and enjoy the torque. If the windshield comes loose from this lil motor, then its more like an issue with the windshield installation. I could maybe, MAYBE see it doin that with built 454s that lobe like a mutha, but not our cars!!! The windshield is a major support to the roof of your car and its not supposed to come loose for anything, unless it was unstalled incorrectly. Rattling? Well, yeah, duh. Its not a toy, its a serious modification to your car, if you don't like it, then you obviously aren't really ready for performance mods. Performance is uncomfortable and loud, its a fact of life. The dash crack is from sitting in the sun for to long, the constant heating and cooling affect. Like chondrules in a meteorite... Alright, I'm reading Dan Brown's Deception Point I say, either suck it up or go for show. Cause if you want that lossed torque back in the wheels, this is what you have to deal with.

Ive got rattles everywhere but I dont car.

Even a stock car got rattles...

If rattles take your life away then modifiying a car is not for you

D@mn Elpaso, you are right! I better sell everything off of my car. Modifying is just not for me and giving my opinion just is wrong.......................Get off my back.......

Some modifications are just not worth it for some people, and for others, they are the best mod ever. I was just stating my opinion. Modifying my car is one of my favorite hobbies...................

I've got both but only the bottom one on the car. It does have some vibes, but not that bad. I'm waiting for a month or two to go by and see if it breaks in any ( less vibes ) before I put the top in. My dash already has the crack of doom, and when I blip the throttle I can see it vibrate.
