HO Swap
Thursday, June 15, 2006 10:40 PM
I've been researching doing the Ho head swap on my Z and actually started buying parts but then I saw how easy the entire Ho swap was or how easy people said it was and decided that an entirely new motor would be more reliable anyway. I want one new and was wondering which of these motors if any is the w-41 b/c that motor from what I researched has the most power. If not which one is the best one to get. And are these motors sold new some where else cheaper? I know it's a lot of questions but thanks in advance guys.http://www.paceperformance.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=154

your ideal engine is gonna be a 89-92..cus that one came with the bigger manifolds and the 086 head..i DOUBT your gonna find the w41 in a yard..lucky for you the only difference is the cams..so all you need to do is contact josh at www.the-race.shop.com and he can get you some w41 cams...unless you want him to build an engine up for you first ..theres nothing like a stroked quad to livin your day

the engine you want is the LG0-A from 89-92. what you'll prolly wanna do is fish the power steering setup off and DOHC pre-95 quad4 from a yard. and make sure you get HPT to tune it otherwise your wasting time and money.

Sven you totally quarterloafed your computer..

Ok this is great. Question though I dont know much bought the HPT and when I was researching I saw where someone said use the hpt instead of the 95 pcm. But, what would the difference be. Also Hot bug is your 89 engine the LGO-A b/c I dont know what the 995 means but I'll pm you bought details b/c this swap is happening this summer.

955 was the only head offered on the 88-89 quad 4 motors. there was only one version of the Quad4 in 88-89, it's all in the faq on quad4forums. The 955 head had bigger exhaust ports (too big really), and smaller valves than the 086 head by 1mm each. It's the worst quad4 head you can get, not an opinion, it's in the numbers. you can make it better, but no where near the 086 or the 753 heads.

BTW the 955,753,086 are all the head casting numbers, the last three digits to be exact.

OK so I want a 90-92 086 head and how well does the 753 compare to the 086. Also I found the FAQ on quad4 and saw where they said the oiling was improved in the 2.4 and from what I understand the 2.4 is a smoother engine. So how reliable is the 2.3 as a daily and has anyone found a way to improve the 2.3's oiling and Im gonna give Josh a call and check pricing on a built 2.3. Can anyone vouch for one of his motors. No disrepect just wondering who has one and what type of numbers they got from it. Thanks for the help.

is that why 2.4 owners swap the oil pump from the 2.3 ?????
several of us have a 2.3 HO as a daily driver with no problems..unless your like me and you hydro lock it

lol well I just saw that they said the 2.4 had better oiling characteristics like bigger connecting rod oiling holes. But whats the difference between the 753 and the 086.

ouch..

anyway HPT gives you the ability to tune the engine whenever you want (laptop and cable tuning). way more power then having new chip burned all the time or waiting for the mantapart chip or other such nonsense. for me a much better option. you have to rig up the 2.3 to seem like a 2.4 to the computer. not hard since the engines are setup rather alike. not a bad swap really. the 2.3 is a much better platform for real power than the 2.4L.

and yes the 2.4 TC is well known for its oiling problems, most likely in the 3rd rod bearing area..

Ok well I found the HPT website and did some reading they tell everything on there even how to use it, but where do I get it and how much will it run me.
Re: HO Swap

you can order it from hptuners.com, get the pro version... that'll run you around $650

that engine is one bad mother....shut your mouth.....

the engine is simular to the one iam doing this winter....but one question that i have is that ....are those ls1 springs like out of a sbc engine and also ss valve, and how much performance do they give to our quads?

Yeah I was looking up parts. And I can do just about everything there except for the boreing which can be sent out. I've never tried anything this extensive before but having a good running engine in my car and a garage. i would be able to take all the time I needed to make sure everything was done right. is this your first build or have you built engines before?

you refering to me?..if so ive only been working on engines for a few years..but i cant take much of the credit for this engine..although i handpicked all the parts TRS built the head and block...i just plain dont have the time nor experience of working with internal parts
